Just recently, on December 30, 2024, the team secured a significant win against Good Hope High School, coming out on top with a score of 59-50. This victory not only marked White County’s 12th win of the season but also brought their impressive record to 14-2. Ending Good Hope’s eight-game home winning streak definitely added a sprinkle of pride to the win. The girls truly showed their dedication and teamwork on the court!
During this thrilling match, several players stood out, demonstrating the depth of talent on the team. Gracie Clark shone brightly, achieving a double-double with 14 points and an astonishing 13 rebounds—setting a brand new career-high! Not far behind, Ava Jones also rocked the court with her double-double performance, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. With such dynamic performances, the team’s energy was contagious, leaving fans and teammates buzzing with excitement.
Before this delightful win, on December 28, 2024, the team faced a heart-wrenching loss against Knox Central High School with a score of 48-51, causing a break in their impressive winning streak. This minor setback, however, didn’t dampen the spirits of the Lady Warriors as they bounced right back to conquer Wayne County with a solid score of 56-37 on December 27, 2024.
Earlier, on December 21, 2024, the squad proudly clinched the title at the Franks Shootout Championship, defeating Bearden High School with an exhilarating score of 73-64. This victory not only showcased their talent but also highlighted their unyielding spirit throughout the competition.
Before their big win against Good Hope, the team also enjoyed victories over Tri-Cities Christian (with a resounding score of 75-48 on December 19) and Oakland High School (coming in strong with a score of 73-44 on December 20). With such an impressive streak, the team has certainly made their mark this season, and their record places them comfortably at the top of the Region 6-3A standings with an unbeaten 7-2 record.
The excitement doesn’t stop there! The White County Varsity Boys Basketball team also made waves on the same night by defeating Chestatee with a score of 61-49. Kylie Watkins led the Lady Warriors in the match against Chestatee, contributing an impressive 20 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocks to secure victory and showcase her phenomenal skills.
While the wins are exhilarating, they come amid some *controversy* regarding the hiring of a new girls’ basketball coach for the upcoming season. The recent decision by the White County Board of Education to hire Steve Shedd as the coach—versus appointing interim coach Quint Moss permanently—has sparked divisive opinions in the community.
