Hey there, Kingsport! If you’ve got plans this weekend, you might want to think twice about your travel route. Starting Saturday morning, a section of John B. Dennis Highway will be closed for construction, and it could throw a wrench in your weekend plans!
From 7 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday, the highway will be closed between Moreland Drive and Lincoln Street. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced this closure will allow crews to perform necessary repairs on the bridge over the Holston River.
If you usually travel this stretch, don’t fret! There’s a plan in place to help you get around. During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Wilcox Drive and Lincoln Street to detour around the work area. Just be sure to give yourself a little extra time to navigate these changes. No one likes to be caught in traffic, especially on a weekend!
And here’s a little heads up! The work on the bridge is entirely dependent on keeping our fingers crossed for good weather. If Mother Nature decides to throw a curveball, the repairs might be delayed. So, keep an eye on the forecast if you’re planning to head out!
Speaking of holiday cheer, have you heard about the unique tradition of Christmas pickles? Yes, you read that right! Many families have adopted this quirky tradition, which is especially fun if you have kids at home. It involves hiding a pickle ornament in the Christmas tree, and whoever finds it gets a special gift! Sounds like a great way to add some extra excitement to your holiday season.
