ELIZABETHTON – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2166 and Second Harvest Food Bank are teaming up to conduct a drive-through food distribution event for veterans and their families. VFW Post 2166 Auxiliary and its volunteers will be orchestrating the event to support those experiencing food insecurity within the community.
The food distribution event will be held on Friday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the VFW Post 2166, located at 2001 West Elk Ave., Elizabethton. Those planning to attend the event are advised to clear ample space in their vehicles’ trunk to accommodate the food box.
Participants will be required to pop their trunk upon arrival in the distribution line. The distribution process will be entirely contactless, with dedicated volunteers loading the boxes directly into the vehicles. This contactless approach is a key element of their plan to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved are the top priority.
Ahead of the event, coordinators are asking interested individuals to call ahead to register. David Batchelder, a representative at the Carter County Veterans Service Office, is taking calls at 542-1824 for prospective attendees to sign up for the event. The pre-registration aims to help the organizers accurately predict the amount of food boxes needed for distribution.
This event directly targets veterans and their families in the Carter County area who are battling food insecurity. The collaboration between the Second Harvest Food Bank and VFW Post 2166 demonstrates an active community support system for its veterans. This event is one way these organizations are stepping up to ensure no veteran or their family goes hungry.
Among other recent community inspired events, the Kingsport Alliance for Continued Learning has released their spring schedule. Tennessee gas prices have seen a surge and breached the $3 mark after four consecutive months. Additionally, a new online database chronicling Carter County’s rich culinary history has been launched.
Alongside such events, local individuals like Marisa are gaining recognition for their personal journey of transformation through adversity. Her story serves as an inspiration for those in the community facing challenges in their lives. Organizing and participating in community events like the food distribution drive help to promote solidarity and offer residents opportunities to support each other in tangible ways.
VFW Post 2166 has a long history of service to veterans and their families in Carter County. It offers resources and community support to aid those who have served the nation. The Second Harvest Food Bank is a regional organization dedicated to feeding those in need and combating hunger in the Northeast region. It operates across multiple counties, providing necessary food supplies to local individuals and families.
The collaboration between VFW Post 2166 and Second Harvest Food Bank not only aims to address food insecurity among veterans and their families but also sets a valuable example of community cooperation and support. These organizations remind citizens that in the spirit of community, no one should go hungry, especially those who have so bravely served the country.
