On a cloudy Halloween evening, the Johnson City Public Library came alive with excitement for its third annual Trick-Tour-Treat event. Families and friends gathered for an evening filled with creative costumes, delightful decorations, and of course, plenty of treats. As the kids donned their costumes and the library staff transformed the space, it was clear that this year’s event was going to be a memorable one.
As we stepped into the library, the first thing that caught our eye was the amazing array of costumes. Young attendees like Joseph, Nicole, and Marlowe floated around the library as adorable butterflies, their colorful wings flapping as they chatted with other little ones. Meanwhile, Halen Farmer and siblings Chandra and Emmett Edwards rocked the evening dressed as members of the beloved Scooby-Doo gang. With laughter and excitement in the air, it felt like the library had transformed into a bustling Halloween village.
The decoration efforts by the library staff were nothing short of spectacular. Young Adult Librarian Kip Polmanteer, along with her teen advisory board, decked out the Teen Space in a whimsical “Witches Swamp” theme that truly captured the spooky spirit of the season. The creativity didn’t stop there; the Administration department offered a delightful “Pumpkin Patch” theme that enchanted everyone who passed by. Every corner of the library overflowed with Halloween charm, from cobwebs to colorful pumpkins.
As is tradition, each department vied for the coveted golden skull trophy – a mysterious and fun award passed along each year to the best-decorated department. With Kip confidently predicting that the Teen department would clinch this year’s trophy, the friendly rivalry added even more excitement to the festivities. Attendees could hardly wait to see who would take home this year’s prize!
As the evening rolled on, children lined up eagerly to trick-or-treat in the Children’s Library, each one grinning from ear to ear with anticipation. Malik and Adalynn, dressed as spooktacular skeletons, added to the festive atmosphere. The sounds of laughter and chatter from the kids created a heartwarming ambiance that enveloped the library. Library Assistant Mirissa Walters beamed with happiness as she watched families enjoy the event, thankful for another year of celebrating Halloween together.
One of the standout moments was when Belle Forrester, another member of the library team, expressed her enthusiasm to be part of this fun-filled evening. The camaraderie among staff and patrons alike showcased the strong sense of community that the library nurtures. Each smile exchanged and every piece of candy handed out added to the joyful spirit that only Halloween can bring.
As the night wrapped up, it was evident that the Trick-Tour-Treat event had captured the essence of Halloween, putting the BOO! in books and fostering connections between the library and its patrons. With costumes, candy, and community all in one place, it was a wonderful way to celebrate the spooky season. Already looking forward to next year’s celebrations, we couldn’t help but leave with the warm glow of Halloween spirit in our hearts!
