Northeast Tennessee Tourism Shatters Records at Annual Pinnacle Awards
A Record-Breaking Night for Tourism in Tennessee
The Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association celebrated an unprecedented night of accolades and recognition on May 30, where exceptional accomplishments, individuals, and businesses that contribute significantly to the region’s tourism industry were honored. The event marked the 27th Annual Pinnacle Awards, which drew a record-breaking crowd, manifesting the robust and vibrant growth in tourist-related community and economic development in the region.
The prestigious event was held at MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center and was brought to life by Visit Kingsport. It was presented by Bristol Motor Speedway and orchestrated in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. Renowned representatives from both the Department of Tourist Development and the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association were present during this milestone event.
An Array of Engelading Performers
Featuring another record-high number of nominations, over a hundred, the Pinnacle Awards attracted a multitude of remarkable performers from categories such as marketing, advertising, events, attractions, individual achievements, and supporting business awards. A panel of esteemed judges from the tourism and hospitality industry across the United States marked another new record by bestowing a total of 44 Pinnacle Awards to the top nominees in each category.
Apart from the award ceremony, the event also recognized graduates of the Hospitality & Tourism Certificate program, a joint venture by East Tennessee State University and the Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association.
Impressive Economic Impact
The tourism sector is the leading economic driver in Tennessee, and Northeast Tennessee contributes significantly to the state’s magnificent financial performance. The region generates more than $841 million from direct visitor spending, garners over $205 million in payroll and provides employment to 6,800 people, making an immense contribution to the local economy. Additionally, the local government benefits from the $32 million generated annually as local sales tax.

- Hot Print Ad: Elizabethton-Carter County Tourism: American Road Magazine, and Visit Kingsport: TN Vacation Guide
- Adventure Tourism Outfitter: Hellbender Outfitters, a nomination by Main Street Elizabethton.
