Wanted in Tennessee since 2012 for failing to comply with probation obligations, his long pursuit ended unexpectedly. His arrest followed earlier drug charges from 2010 involving possession of illegal substances. As he awaits his next steps in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, the story highlights the relentless pursuit of justice.

Tennessee Fugitive Gary Calhoun Arrested in Virginia After Years on the Run

In an unexpected turn of events, the long-pursued fugitive Gary Calhoun, aged 66, has been apprehended after evading law enforcement for more than a decade. His journey of running from the law came to a surprising halt on a sunny Thursday, thanks to the keen eyes of the Bristol Virginia Police Department.

A Long-Standing Warrant Uncovered

Calhoun had been wanted in Tennessee since 2012, primarily for fleeing from probation and parole obligations. The clouds of his elusive life began to clear when he was found at a modest house located on Randolph Street in Bristol, Virginia. It seems that Calhoun’s years of running finally caught up with him, leading to his current confinement in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. He is being held on a fugitive from justice warrant and likely contemplating his next steps.

The Beginning of His Troubles

To understand how Gary Calhoun ended up on the run, one must look back to February 15, 2010, when he found himself embroiled in a police incident at a hotel in Kingsport, Tennessee. During this chaotic episode, detectives discovered a stash of illegal substances amounting to 21 grams of marijuana, along with scheduled narcotics categorized under II and IV. As if that wasn’t enough, packaging materials indicative of distribution were also seized from room #325.

Accomplice and Arrest

On that fateful day, Calhoun’s dealings went sour when he was arrested alongside his companion, Veronica Falin. Both were slapped with charges that included possession of marijuana, along with the dangerous schedule II and schedule IV narcotics intended for resale. To add insult to injury, police also confiscated around $800 in cash, suspected to be the earnings from his illegal activities.

Failure to Appear and Its Consequences

As if the situation couldn’t get murkier, it was revealed that Calhoun had an active arrest warrant out of Hawkins County, Tennessee, at the time of his hotel arrest, stemming from a failure to appear in court. This unfortunate series of events landed both Calhoun and Falin in the Kingsport City Jail, where they were arraigned the following day, February 16, 2010.

The Catch After Years of Evasion

Since that day, Gary Calhoun faded into the shadows, becoming a name on the run rather than a man of law. His evasion lasted more than ten years, an impressive feat for someone trying to stay off the grid. However, be it through sheer luck or perhaps a slip of the tongue, the Bristol authorities managed to draw the curtain on Calhoun’s escape, bringing him back to face his past and the ramifications of his choices.

What Lies Ahead?

Now that he is behind bars again, many are left wondering what will happen next. Will he contest the charges brought against him, or will he seek a plea deal to reduce the potential consequences he faces? Whatever option he chooses, it is clear that the path ahead will not be easy for this seasoned fugitive.

A Reminder

The story of Gary Calhoun serves as a reminder that no matter how far one goes or how long they hide, the long arm of the law can reach anyone at any time. For now, this chapter of Calhoun’s life is closed, but surely, it opens up a new one filled with uncertainty and consequences.
