Officer-Involved Shooting in Johnson City leads to TBI Investigation and Charges
JOHNSON CITY — A recent officer-involved shooting in Johnson City has resulted in a series of charges following an intensive investigation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). The incident occurred on a Friday evening in a residential locality along W. Chestnut Street.
Investigated Incident
On June 21, local authorities called upon TBI special agents at the request of 1st Judicial District Attorney General Steve Finney to investigate an officer-involved shooting. The incident took place in the 100 block of W. Chestnut Street in Johnson City. Responding to a call, two officers from the city’s Police Department encountered Brad Ward, 52, who was armed with a shotgun at his residence.
Ward reportedly fired the weapon at the officers, prompting them to return fire. Ward was struck in the ensuing exchange and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Issued Warrants and Charges
As a result of the investigation, TBI agents were able to obtain warrants, charging Brad Ward with a litany of crimes. These included one count of domestic assault, one count of aggravated child abuse and neglect, one count of aggravated child endangerment, and one count of reckless endangerment.
Further, Ward was also charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated assault on a first responder, and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Upon his discharge from the hospital, Ward was served his warrants and subsequently transported to the Washington County Jail where he currently is held without bond.
