Sullivan East High School Celebrates the Graduation of 221 Students from the Class of 2024
In a landmark achievement for the community, Sullivan East High School commemorated the graduation of 221 students from the Class of 2024. The celebratory graduation and commencement exercises were held on May 16, in the prestigious Dyer Dome, with 215 of the honored graduates in attendance, as disclosed by Principal Andy Hare.
Building Up to the Grand Occasion
The buildup to the grand event commenced on May 13 when East High School students returned to their former elementary schools in Bluff City, Emmett, and Mary Hughes. The returnees sought to inspire future Patriots as well as to celebrate their impending graduation. The initiative was not only nostalgic but also etched a profound feeling of accomplishment in the returning students and stirred a sense of aspiration in the young scholars.
Honoring Outstanding Leadership
On a noteworthy note, Brynlee Cosby, a sophomore from the school, represented not just the school but also the region at the annual HOBY Seminar held at the University of Tennessee Southern. HOBY, or the Hugh O’ Brian Youth Leadership, is a historical youth leadership organization instituted over 50 years ago. The objective of the organization is to aid high school sophomores in recognizing and harnessing their leadership talents and apply them to become effective and ethical leaders. Cosby’s participation in this esteemed seminar signifies the commitment of Sullivan East High School to nurturing holistic growth in their students.
A Proud Achievement
In another proud moment for Sullivan East High School earlier that month, the school received the Silver Medalist Award from the Secretary of State of Tennessee. This award is part of the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level and Silver Level awards for high schools in Tennessee that achieve remarkable student voter registration thresholds. Sullivan East managed to secure an impressive 87.1% registration rate among its eligible student voters, crossing the required 85% threshold. Student ambassadors for this voter registration program at the school were Julia Ledford and Andrew “A.J” Torbett.
Celebrating the Graduates
The captivating graduation ceremony was chaired by the Master of Ceremonies, Senior Aaron Johnson. This well-organized event highlighted the dedication of the students, educators, and administrators toward achieving educational excellence while nurturing responsible citizens for the future. The jubilant faces of the graduates, their beaming parents, and proud educators was testimony to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that propels Sullivan East High School to new heights with each passing year.
The graduation of the class of 2024 is not just a milestone for the graduates, but also a proud achievement for the Sullivan East High School and the entire community. The school stands firmly in its commitment to foster a culture that champions student success, leadership, and civic responsibility.
