All You Need to Know about This Week’s Happenings at the Sullivan County Libraries (March 24-30)

Sullivan County’s cherished hub of knowledge and community interaction, the Public Library, has a host of activities lined up for the week from March 24 to 30. As an integral part of the county, the library system, with five locations to serve the community, has something for everyone.

Important Library News and Updates

The first thing to note is that all branches of the Sullivan County Public Library will be closed on Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday. However, they will reopen on Saturday, March 30, and Monday, April 1.

If you’re excited about the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, then the library has you covered! The Sullivan County Public Library will be providing eclipse glasses, which will be available for pick up at the Colonial Heights and Blountville branches beginning March 25. These glasses are necessary to safely view the 85% totality of the solar eclipse in East Tennessee. Just remember, there is a limit of four pairs per household, subject to the availability of supplies.

Upcoming Meetings and Services

Friends of the Sullivan County Library will hold their board meeting at the Blountville branch on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Similarly, Friends of the Colonial Heights Library will meet on Thursday, March 28, at 4 p.m.

If you need help with your taxes, you may want to look into the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at the Blountville branch. This service is available for those with an annual income under $60,000. Appointments can be made between now and April 12 by calling the Blountville branch or by visiting the library’s official website.

An exciting addition to the services provided by the Sullivan Gardens branch is the introduction of Remote Pick-Up and Drop-off. This service, available at the Dollar General in Fall Branch each Thursday afternoon, is perfect for patrons struggling to visit the branch location.

Online Presence and Digital Resources

The Sullivan County Library leverages the power of social media to keep the community informed about its events and updates. You can find them on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Further, if you can’t make it to a physical branch, the library’s digital resources, like the Libby and Hoopla apps, offer access to various library materials!

A Variety of Programs for Children and Teens

This week, the children’s Preschool Storytimes program will delve into Easter celebrations through picture books about Easter and an Easter craft. Other regular programs include a Lego Club, Literature with Daniel, and After School Story Time.

Special Upcoming Events for Children

Special upcoming events include a Guided Lego Club, a Reading Session with therapy dog JB, and a Children’s Classics Book Club that will discuss “Misty of Chincoteague” by Marguerite Henry.

Programs and Activities for Families and Adults

For wider community engagement, the library offers American Sign Language lessons and an annual Easter Egg Hunt for families. An array of clubs and classes for adults are also featured regularly. These include a book club, a Knit/Crochet Club, a Geri-Fit exercise class, and even a Zumba class!

Need to Reserve a Spot?

Some events, like the Spring Bunny Craft on Thursday, April 4, at the Bloomingdale branch, will require prior reservation. Be sure to sign up by the given due dates to ensure your participation.

The Sullivan County Public Library, with its diverse programs and activities, remains committed to its mission of promoting a love of reading, facilitating lifelong learning, and enhancing the quality of life in our community. Be sure not to miss out on these exciting events!
