This Week’s Highlights at Sullivan County Libraries
The Sullivan County Public Library system, with its five locations, will provide a host of activities for the community from March 3-9, ranging from educational programs, workshops, and social events.
Closure and Services
On Tuesday, the libraries, along with other county offices, will be closed for the primary election. However, tax assistance services are available at the Blountville branch. Appointments are open to those earning under $60,000 per year for tax preparation at the library. To schedule your appointment, call the branch at 423-279-2714 or register through the website before April 12.
The Sullivan Gardens branch has introduced an innovative service for those having difficulty accessing the branch. The remote pickup and drop-off service at the Dollar General in Fall Branch allows patrons to collect and return library items every Thursday.
Interested community members can follow the library on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates and events.
Children and Teens Programs
The libraries’ children and teen sections are bustling with activities and programs. The weekly Preschool Storytimes are themed and take place at all locations, ensuring availability even if local children miss a particular day. The theme of the first week of March is “Windy Weather!” featuring relevant picture books and a corresponding craft activity.
The Guided Lego Club, History with Daniel, After School Story Time, and Children’s Classics Book Club are just some of the other fun and informative programs engaging young learners. Children can also participate in a special art program focused on the works of Hokusai, the famous Edo period Japanese artist.
Family Programs
Activities for families include an All Ages and Abilities Coloring Party, welcoming everyone to relax and spend time in a creative and social setting. American Sign Language lessons are open to anyone over the age of 8 at the Blountville branch, providing a unique opportunity to learn a new language.
A special screening of “Secret of the Kells” will be held on March 9th. The film, though recommended for viewers aged 8 and above, provides a fun and social experience for families. There are also opportunities to sample special treats inspired by the film.
The first ever Great Blountville Bake Show is a must-see event. Make sure you register your pie for the competition by March 9.
Adult Programs
The adult section boasts a variety of programs, from Geri-Fit and Chair Yoga sessions, to a knit/crochet club that not only encourages sharing of ideas and patterns, but also advocates for community service through donations to nonprofits.
The library is also hosting a Security Tips session for seniors living alone and a Coffee Filter Flower Craft workshop. Registration for these programs is due in the first week of March.
Whether your interest is in fitness, arts, community service, or simply relaxing in a peaceful setting, the Sullivan County libraries offer programs to cater to every need and interest. To register or for more information, visit one of the local branches.
