In a peaceful town of Sullivan County, Tennessee begins another day with a thrilling event. Sergeant Samantha Davis, a corrections officer in Sullivan County, began her morning routine on the 4th of March with a deviation. As a mother and an officer, a cup of coffee was a vital part of her morning. That particular morning, however, she decided to quench her thirst for caffeine with a Monster energy drink from a local Scotchman gas station along West State Street in Bristol, Tennessee, unknowing of the impending twist in her day.
An unforeseen scene awaited her at the gas station as she walked into a robbery in progress. In her words, “That Monster turned into a wild Monday.”
As she entered the establishment, she witnessed a struggle between the gas station clerk and a suspect. Sergeant Davis, without hesitating, instantly went into her law enforcement mode.
Upon walking into the gas station, Davis saw the heated altercation between the clerk and the suspect. She immediately confronted them and learned from the clerk that he was being robbed. “At that point I pulled my weapon out and I instructed him to get on the ground and put his hands out and told the clerk to call 911“, Davis tells.
Davis managed to successfully subdue the suspected perpetrator, later identified as 28-year-old Brandon Lowe, even before the local police arrived on the scene. A trained officer under the Sullivan County Sheriff department, Davis showcased her professionalism and readiness to respond regardless of her environment. Sgt. Davis credits her department’s thorough training, which emphasizes that all sworn deputies, be they on patrol or in corrections, need to be ready to act in the interest of public safety.
Brandon Lowe, the alleged robber, was charged with several crimes, including aggravated robbery, criminal impersonation, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Davis’ heroic act has been recognized and celebrated in her department. Her supervisor, Lieutenant Michael Cole, expressed his department’s immense pride. “She did what she was supposed to, what she was called for her in general orders to stop the perpetrator,” added Lt. Cole.
Davis humbly attributed the successful intervention to good timing and divine intervention, stating, “it was good timing and God’s work I guess that it just put me at the right place at the right time.” Further, emphasizing her dedication to her duty, she said, “I’m just glad everybody is okay, because the clerks could have been shot, or anybody could have been hurt“.
