Johnson City Launches Smiles for Veterans Program to Transform Lives of Local Heroes

Johnson City’s Heroes Get a Chance for a New Smile

Located in the heart of the Tri-Cities, Johnson City has once again stepped up to show its appreciation for local veterans. The Regional Center for Dental Implants & Oral Surgery has kicked off its second annual Smiles for Veterans program, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for one deserving hero to receive a free smile makeover!

What’s It All About?

This fantastic initiative aims to help a local veteran who is struggling with their oral health. If you’re someone who has trouble eating, smiling, or even speaking due to missing or failing teeth, this program could be just what you need. The lucky recipient will undergo a full-arch restoration procedure—a treatment that can transform a person’s smile and boost their confidence—all without the hefty price tag of about $50,000.

How to Apply

The application period for the Smiles for Veterans program runs from October 1 to October 31. It’s open to all active-duty, reserve, and veteran military personnel living in the Tri-Cities area. If you or someone you know fits the bill, the application process is simple!

All you need to do is answer a few straightforward questions and submit some digital photos of your smile and teeth. It’s a chance to share your story and potentially start your journey toward a new and improved smile. For more details or to apply, you can visit the Regional Center’s dedicated page for veterans.

Choosing the Right Candidate

This year, selection will be based on a variety of factors including the compelling nature of the applicant’s story, financial need, and health history. Dr. Matthew Sherban, who has a passion for serving those who’ve served us, emphasizes that this program is about more than just dental health—it’s about restoring dignity and self-esteem. Dr. Sherban’s background includes completing his oral surgery training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and an impressive eight years of service in the United States Navy.

A Heartwarming Success Story

Last year, the program made a big impact with its first recipient, Donald Dishner, a resilient 43-year-old Navy veteran hailing from Erwin, Tennessee. Donald shared how his broken and decaying teeth caused him embarrassment and low self-esteem. “It’s lowered my self-esteem and caused a lot of issues mentally,” he revealed. However, with the help of the Smiles for Veterans program, he can now look forward to smiling in his pictures without hesitation.

Follow the Journey

As the program progresses, you can keep up with updates by following the Regional Center on their social media platforms, like Facebook and Instagram. It’s a great way to see how dental implants and full-arch restoration can not only transform a smile but also enhance a person’s overall wellbeing and confidence.

Why This Matters

Offering such a life-changing procedure highlights the community’s commitment to honoring and supporting those who have served in the military. A smile is more than just a facial expression—it reflects happiness, confidence, and a positive outlook on life. By giving a deserving veteran the gift of a new smile, the Smiles for Veterans program truly embodies the spirit of gratitude and support that Johnson City prides itself on.

So, if you or someone you know qualifies, don’t wait! Check out the application details and potentially take that remarkable first step towards a brighter, more confident future. Remember, the window for applications is open until the end of October, so be sure to act fast!
