School Community Mourns the Passing of Local Heroine, Teresa Stanley Moore
Abingdon, VA – The tight-knit community of Abingdon is coming together to celebrate the life of Teresa Stanley Moore, a beloved member of the Patrick Henry High School family. Teresa, who graduated with the Class of 1981, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 62 after bravely battling health issues.
A Life Well-Lived
Born on October 30, 1962, in Saltville, VA, Teresa was the daughter of Harold “Bill” and Doris Stanley. She lit up the lives of everyone around her with her warm heart and adventurous spirit. Known for her love of family, she was always seen cherishing moments spent with her children and grandchildren. And who could forget her adventurous side? Alongside her husband, she explored the open roads as an over-the-road (OTR) truck driver, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Teresa was more than just a dedicated mother and grandmother; she was also a figure of strength and resilience in her community. Following her adventurous years, she took on the role of administrator at an assisted living facility, providing care and support to those in need. But despite the demands of her work, her heart always found its way back to her family.
Remembering a Legacy
Tragically, Teresa’s life was also marked by loss. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Moore, her parents, and her brother Jerry Stanley. These losses may have weighed heavily on her heart, yet she continued to embrace life and share her love with those around her. Her children, Adam Poston of Huffman, TX; Jarrod Poston of Colorado Springs, CO; and Kelley White of Bristol, TN stand as testaments to her strength and nurturing spirit.
A Loving Family
Teresa’s legacy doesn’t end with her immediate family. She was a dedicated sister to her siblings, Harold Stanley of Meadowview, VA, and Claudia “Candy” Stanley of Bristol, VA. Additionally, she is survived by her stepchildren Ryan Moore, Jordan Colebank, John Tyler Denmon, and Stephanie Tatom, all of whom carry on her spirit.
As much as Teresa loved her family, she also adored her grandchildren. From Myranda Childress to Alex, Gabe, Lucas, and Benny Poston, her heart overflowed with joy when surrounded by them. And let’s not forget her step-grandchildren, who added even more love to her life.
How to Honor Teresa
The community is invited to pay their respects during a visitation on April 6, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the West Main Free Will Baptist Church, located at 150 Fairground Road, Abingdon, VA. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Mike Wright. Donations can be made via check payable to Barns at Blue Mountain, at the address 17507 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24210. A fitting tribute for a woman who endlessly supported those in need.
