Scarecrow Contest Unleashes Creative Spirit in Elizabethton This Fall

Scarecrow Contest Brings Fall Festivity to Elizabethton

Elizabethton is buzzing with excitement this fall as the 2024 Scarecrow Contest takes center stage, turning our charming downtown into a vibrant canvas of creativity! Since the contest kicked off on September 16, locals have been hard at work crafting unique scarecrows that reflect their imagination and festive spirit. With the contest running until October 27, there’s still time to join in on the fun!

How to Participate

What’s great about this event is that it’s completely free for all community members who want to participate. Whether you’re a seasoned decorator or just want to have some fun with friends and family, this contest invites everyone to get involved. The hard work of participants will be rewarded with first, second, and third-place ribbons, decided by you—the public! That’s right, the winners will be chosen through online voting, making it a community-centric event.

Make sure to mark your calendars for October 28, when the results will be announced. Everyone’s scarecrow displays must stay up until November 1 to keep the spooky spirit alive all Halloween season long!

Community Spirit in Full Display

The enthusiasm for the contest has really caught fire, with both businesses and local residents jumping in to showcase their creativity. You can see amazing displays popping up throughout the downtown area, each more imaginative than the last. To help participants, local Farm Supply generously offered straw delivery services to businesses on September 13, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to create their masterpieces.

As the contest winds down, don’t forget about cleanup! The Chamber of Commerce and the Elizabethton Farmers Market will be gathering straw on November 2 at 10 a.m.. It’s a great opportunity to pitch in and help tidy up after the festivities. Just a friendly reminder: participants should remove any non-organic materials and decorations from their scarecrow displays prior to that time.

Claiming Your Space

To ensure the contest ran smoothly, businesses had the first chance to claim scarecrow locations outside their storefronts, with ribbons marking their spots by September 13. The following day, community members were encouraged to select their own columns. For those crafting their displays, organizers advised steering clear of perishable items to avoid any unfortunate messes—after all, the creations will be on display for more than 45 days!

Voting Made Easy

To assist voters, each scarecrow display features a handy QR code, making it simple to cast your vote online. Voting is crucial as it’s your chance to support your favorites and help determine the winners! Remember, designs should maintain a safe distance from the street and be weather-resistant. This ensures that your favorite creations withstand whatever Mother Nature throws at us during the contest.

Join the Fun!

So, grab your family, friends, and even your pets, and take a stroll downtown to check out all the delightful scarecrows. The 2024 Scarecrow Contest is more than just a competition—it’s about community, creativity, and celebrating the spirit of fall. Whether you’re participating or simply enjoying the sights, Elizabethton is the place to be this October.
