Power Restoration Progress in Johnson City After Devastating Floods

Johnson City, Tenn. – The past week has been a whirlwind for residents in Johnson City and surrounding areas, as they continue to recover from the toll taken by recent, severe flooding. BrightRidge, the local utility company, has been hard at work restoring power to those affected, and they recently shared some encouraging news about the significant progress they’ve made since last Friday.

Astonishing Recovery Efforts

Just last week, BrightRidge was dealing with an astonishing 33,458 outages in their system. Following a week of diligent restoration efforts, that number has dropped dramatically to 200 remaining outages. The updates came from BrightRidge in a news release that highlighted the efforts of their dedicated crew members amidst what they called a “truly epic week.” Though significant progress has been made, the company is aware that the remaining outages will prove to be more complex to handle.

Challenges on the Road to Restoration

As anyone who has experienced the aftermath of storms or flooding can attest, the road to recovery can be paved with obstacles. BrightRidge’s CEO, Jeff Dykes, emphasized this point, stating, “Restoration to these folks will be difficult in most areas, where rebuilds and new lines must be pulled. Some buildings will have to have inspections and repairs made as well.” This is a reminder that while the company is making strides, larger challenges still lie ahead.

Progress Made Across Local Areas

In an encouraging update, BrightRidge reported that their crews successfully restored power across the Nolichucky River early Wednesday morning. In less than a week, they completed two major feeds across the Bailey and Jackson Bridges. However, challenges still remain as teams work to get a third feed across the now-destroyed Taylor Bridge. Repairing this vital connection is expected to take around three days, as crews work tirelessly to ensure the power comes back on for affected customers.

The Importance of Safety and Patience

With heavy machinery and skilled workers in the area, safety is of utmost importance. BrightRidge has asked motorists traveling through these locations to exercise caution as restoration crews continue their work. It’s vital that everyone stays safe while these critical repairs are done.

Appreciation for Assistance

BrightRidge’s CEO, Jeff Dykes, took a moment to express his gratitude towards external help received during this challenging time. He thanked Pike Electric and other contractors who have stepped in to assist during this overwhelming effort. It’s a testament to the community spirit that shines brightly through tough times.

Hang In There!

If you’re one of the few still without power, BrightRidge is encouraging you to hold on just a bit longer. “If folks can just hang in there a little longer, we will get there,” said Dykes. It’s clear that there’s a dedicated team behind the scenes putting in tremendous effort to restore electricity to everyone.

Looking Ahead

As Johnson City and the surrounding areas continue the recovery process, the community is coming together to support one another. The focus on safety, patience, and resilience ensures that brighter days are ahead. Just remember, every bit of progress made brings us one step closer to regaining normalcy.
