Popcorn Store Arriving Soon in Downtown Kingsport

A beloved popcorn hotspot, Cornucopia, is planning to bring a fresh wave of enticing flavors to the historical epicenter of Kingsport. Located in the iconic Wallace News Building, the store will be a delightful addition to the vibrant downtown scene.

About Cornucopia and its Relocation

Owned and run by entrepreneur, Mindy Fore, Cornucopia has been satiating the popcorn cravings of Kingsport’s community for half a decade. Initially launched on North Eastman Road, the store has decided to shift its operations to downtown Kingsport. The relocation is majorly driven by the need for more room to cater to events and parties. The new address will also extend the business’s operating hours especially during the bustling summer events.

New Features and Offerings

The new location at downtown will enable the store to expand its current offerings. In addition to its over 40 unique popcorn flavors ranging from sweet to savory, Cornucopia will also introduce an appetizing range of fudges. Fore shared her excitement about the new location, stating, “The bigger space is going to allow us to add another offering. We’re going to do fudge, and of course, the Mountain Dew slushies.” The innovative popcorn store also plans to expand its operating hours to cater to the after-hours crowd. According to Fore, many downtown businesses do not operate late, but Cornucopia plans to change that. The brand also intends to stay open during Mondays, unlike many other establishments.

Anticipated Launch of the New Cornucopia Store

While the old business site on Eastman Road will continue its operations until June 15th, Mindy Fore anticipates the grand opening of the new store to take place on June 22. Fore is hopeful that the downtown location will serve as an attractive spot for school kids for after-school snacks. Although the shop’s launch coincides with summer vacation, Fore is optimistic about the footfall from those who want to enjoy a Kingsport tour, visiting different downtown shops while relishing Cornucopia’s delicious popcorn treats. Once open, the store will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at its new address at 205 Broad Street.

Historical Significance of the Location

The historic Wallace News Building has been a home to a myriad of businesses including a beauty salon, collection agency, law agency, and the Wallace News Stand. Established initially as Broad Street Fruit and News in 1936, it was later renamed as Wallace News Stand after its ownership changed hands in 1941. Until its closure in 2018, the newsstand provided an assortment of magazines, paperbacks, tobacco and pipes, video games, and a pinball machine in the heart of Kingsport. Cornucopia’s move to this historical building is sure to add another chapter to its rich narrative.

Fostering Community Spirit: Words from the Building’s Owners

Anthony Williams, the building’s owner and a local business proprietor, expressed his excitement about Cornucopia’s venture into the community-friendly commercial space. In a joint statement with Jamie Williams, he said, “Mindy is a smart, tenacious, and creative business owner, and it has been a pleasure to partner with her throughout this process.” Both Williams are confident that Fore’s entrepreneurial spirit and attention to quality goods and service will contribute significantly to the growth of downtown Kingsport and enhance its vibrant community spirit.
