Greetings from sunny Palisades! It’s been an eventful few weeks for our local Varsity Boys Basketball Team, filled with exhilarating highs and challenging lows. The players have certainly had an action-packed schedule, and we’re here to break down all the excitement of their recent games.
Let’s kick things off with the latest game on January 3, 2025, where the team faced off against the South Mecklenburg High School. In a nail-biting contest that left fans on the edge of their seats, Palisades battled hard but ultimately fell short with a score of 67-72. Though they didn’t secure a victory, the effort and spirit displayed by the players were commendable.
Before this tough game, the team achieved a sweet victory over Kings Mountain High School on December 30, 2024. This match went down to the wire, but in the end, Palisades emerged victorious with a close score of 62-59, proving they could stand tall when it counted most.
The Kings Mountain Invitational held on December 28 wasn’t as favorable for the team. Palisades faced a setback against Ashbrook High School, losing decisively with a score of 45-68. However, the day before that, on December 27, the Pumas triumphed over Butler High School in another heart-stopping game, winning 82-81. This game was a scoring season-high for the team, showcasing their offensive potential.
Earlier in December, Palisades faced Dreher High School during the 2024 Border Classic, where they fought hard but came up short again with a score of 41-51. While the losses have been tough, the Moore gymnasium has been filled with support from fans who’ve cheered on their team through thick and thin.
In times of struggle, it’s important to spotlight those players who truly shine, and one such player has been Jayen Reeves. Even amidst some tough losses, Reeves has put on remarkable performances, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts and proving himself a standout player. His determination and skill have kept fans hopeful and energized.
Looking ahead, there’s plenty to be excited about. The Pumas are gearing up for upcoming matchups against the Olympic Trojans and the South Mecklenburg Sabres, both of which will provide an opportunity for our team to bounce back and showcase their true potential. The players remain enthusiastic, and the coaching staff is optimistic about overcoming recent challenges.
It’s worth mentioning that the positivity from our community has been phenomenal. Local supporters have rallied around the team, fostering an encouraging atmosphere as they cheer for every game.
As we navigate through winter sports, it’s fascinating to see other local teams making headlines too. The Mallard Creek Mavericks also faced off against North Mecklenburg on January 3, with a gripping match ending narrowly in favor of the Mavericks at 54-52.
Additionally, teams such as Burlington Christian have shown incredible resilience, overcoming a seven-point deficit to secure a win against Queens Grant with a score of 62-57. The determination and talent across all local high school basketball teams continue to impress fans.
