Johnson City, Tenn. – In an exciting development for the local community, a new golf cart manufacturing facility is set to bring a wave of employment opportunities. A whopping $14 million investment into this facility aims to create 225 new jobs right here in Johnson City.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting that this new venture is part of MD Carts’ expanding operations. The facility will be located on Eddie Williams Road, adding to the company’s already impressive footprint in Johnson City. Together with its sister company, LPI Inc., MD Carts will now boast more than 750,000 square feet of manufacturing space within the city.

At this new facility, MD Carts will produce a wide range of specialty recreational carts, catering to enthusiasts and professionals alike. Once the production is up and running, these golf carts will be available directly to consumers through over 80 retail locations across the United States, as well as online via their website, GolfCarts.com.

Alicia Summers, the Johnson City Economic Development Director, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Support from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Tennessee Valley Authority, and City of Johnson City make investing here profitable for the manufacturer.” Summers emphasized the significant positive impact this investment will have on the community, stressing how MD Carts’ plan to offer quality jobs with competitive wages is a true win-win scenario for everyone involved.

Johnson City Mayor Todd Fowler also chimed in, sharing his excitement. “This is wonderful news for our community,” he said. “For years, LPI has manufactured quality spas and shipped them from Johnson City to commercial partners across the United States. We are excited to see their new company expand their production of world-class products here in Johnson City.”

David Hatley, CEO of MD Carts, echoed these sentiments. “Johnson City and the State of Tennessee have been vital in LPI’s path of becoming the largest hot tub manufacturer in the USA,” he remarked. Hatley is now looking forward to achieving the same rapid growth with the new EV golf cart manufacturing business. He lauded the local workforce and the numerous advantages Johnson City offers, stating that MD Carts feels privileged to be part of the community.

Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy also commented, underscoring the strategic significance of this investment for the region. “The selection of Johnson City as the location for MD Carts’ new manufacturing facility is a testament to our region’s strong economic foundations and collaborative spirit,” he noted. Grandy went on to emphasize that this significant investment not only brings valuable jobs but also reinforces Washington County’s role as a key player in the manufacturing sector.

This development marks a significant milestone for Johnson City, promising both economic growth and job creation. For local residents, the arrival of MD Carts could mean a wealth of new employment opportunities and a positive boost to the local economy.
