Northeast State Theatre Stages the Thrill-Ride Mystery, D.O.A.

Blountville, Tennessee – Northeast State Community College’s Department of Theatre brings the hard-hitting, noir-style mystery performance, D.O.A. to its stage this April. The award-winning theatre department’s latest production adds tension and excitement to the stage of the Ballad Health Regional Performing Arts Center for all those thrill-seekers in the audience.

The Plot

The contemporary stage version of D.O.A., which was originally a classic noir film from the 1950s, begins with Frank Bigelow, a relatively small-time accountant, who reports his own murder at a police station. The dark narrative unfolds as Bigelow recounts the events leading up to his current predicament.

Drawn into a chaotic world of shady business deals, mysterious suicides, and deceitful women, Bigelow has only hours to unravel his own murder mystery. As his secretary and girlfriend, Paula, awaits for news, the ticking clock adds a pressure-cooker intensity to the mystery.

Classic Noir with a Contemporary Touch

Elizabeth Lovelady’s adaptation of Russel Rouse and Clarence Greene’s screenplay retains all the elements of noir storytelling, like cigar-smoking detectives and gun-wielding femme fatales. At the same time, the play offers updated elements that appeal to modern audiences.

Dates and Tickets

Directed by T.J. Kent, associate professor of Theatre at Northeast State, the play opens on April 18 at 7:30 p.m. Performances will continue on April 19th and 20th at 7:30 p.m, with a scheduled matinee performance on April 21 at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance, with general admission priced at $10. Discounts are available for Northeast State students, faculty, and children under 12 with admission set at $5.
