With a heart set on healing, she took charge of her education, and by the time she was just 15, she graduated high school and set her sights on a nursing career.

But Kali wasn’t alone in this pursuit. Her mother, Eva Jessee, decided to join her on this educational adventure. In 2021, the pair embarked on a rigorous fifteen-month program at ETSU, facing the trials of nursing school together. Armed with support and love, they pushed through the tough times and celebrated their graduation in the fall of 2022.

For both Eva and Kali, the journey was not just about acquiring knowledge; it was about the unbreakable bond they formed as they navigated the challenges of their studies. “We really rely on each other. Our love and support are what help us make it through the tough times,” Eva shared, highlighting the importance of their relationship in this demanding field.

They have now set their sights on becoming nurse practitioners, with plans to graduate in December of 2025. “It’s just so special to be able to go through this journey side-by-side,” Kali said. “We have shared experiences that most people don’t get to, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.” Their bond has not only strengthened through shared classrooms and study sessions but also through the myriad life experiences they have encountered.
