Moonlite Drive-In Shines Bright with Clint Black Concert in Abingdon

ABINGDON, Va.— Last Saturday, the legendary Clint Black graced the stage at the Moonlite Drive-In, captivating the audience with his classic country hits. The event was part of the annual Virginia Highlands Festival, a beloved local tradition that brings music, arts, and culture to this historic town.

The concert wasn’t just about music – it was also a heartfelt fundraising effort for the Moonlite Drive-In, which has been an iconic part of Abingdon since it first opened back in 1949. Although the night was a smash hit with the crowd, organizers shared that they didn’t quite hit their fundraising target. However, they’re optimistic and committed to continuing their efforts throughout the rest of 2024.

Co-owner Renee Blevins expressed her gratitude for everyone who turned out to support the drive-in, saying that it’s events like these that keep the spirit of the venue alive. “We’re so thankful for the community. Thanks to everyone who attended, we had a fantastic night,” said Blevins.

Supporting acts Mason Ramsey and Lance Stinson fired up the crowd with their performances, setting the stage perfectly for Clint Black’s headlining act. The audience, a mix of longtime fans and new listeners, enjoyed a night under the stars filled with sing-alongs, dancing, and good old-fashioned fun.

One concertgoer shared, “It was incredible to see Clint Black perform live. Plus, supporting our local drive-in just made the night even better. It felt like we were part of something really special.”

Blevins also announced that the Moonlite Drive-In plans to start showing movies again in April 2025. “This venue holds so many memories for people around here. We’re committed to keeping those memories alive and creating new ones,” she added.

Events like this one are crucial for the Moonlite Drive-In, which continues to strive towards its goal of preserving a piece of Abingdon’s history. The fundraising efforts will extend into each month through the end of 2024, offering plenty of opportunities for community members and visitors to pitch in and enjoy some great entertainment.

The Virginia Highlands Festival itself is a significant contributor to the local economy, drawing visitors from all over who come to experience the unique blend of arts, crafts, and performances. This year’s festival has been no exception, with the Clint Black concert being one of the main highlights.

For those who missed out on the fun, there are still plenty of ways to support the Moonlite Drive-In. Upcoming events and fundraising activities will be listed on the venue’s official website and social media pages. From movie nights to benefit concerts, the drive-in is pulling out all the stops to ensure it meets its financial goals.

As the night drew to a close, the sense of community and support was palpable. The concert wasn’t just a night of music; it was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Moonlite Drive-In and its importance to the people of Abingdon.

After all, in a world that’s constantly changing, places like the Moonlite Drive-In remind us of the joy and magic of shared experiences. Here’s hoping for many more nights under the stars with family, friends, and fantastic music.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Moonlite Drive-In’s upcoming events and how you can contribute to preserving this local treasure.
