Milligan University Seniors Prepare for "Pause" Themed Gallery Showcase in Johnson City

Miligan University Students Gear Up for Creative Showcase in Johnson City!

Johnson City is all set to welcome a wave of creativity as Milligan University’s talented seniors gear up for their highly anticipated gallery showcase! This year’s theme is beautifully crafted around the concept of “Pause.” From November 17 to December 3, the Milligan Art Gallery—nestled in the cozy Derthick Hall—will proudly display the impressive works of aspiring artists ready to share their unique visions with the community.

A Moment to Reflect

Students pursuing degrees in graphic design and interactive media design have gone through a whirlwind of deadlines, exams, and art projects. Finally, this showcase offers them the perfect opportunity to hit that pause button and soak in the fruits of their labor. According to Nicholas Hensley, one of the standout graphic design majors from Erwin, the theme “Pause” perfectly encapsulates their journey. “When deadlines and exams are flying at you, it can be hard to really appreciate what you created,” he says, highlighting the importance of taking a moment to enjoy their achievements. “This is our chance to reflect and enjoy the hard work put in over the last four years.”

Meet the Rising Stars

Featured in this year’s showcase are the brilliant minds behind some of the most creative works you’ll see. Abbey Cartagena and Ashley Roberts are leading the way in interactive media design, while Nicholas Hensley and Kamdyn Lee are the highlighted talents in graphic design. These bright students aren’t just showcasing their art; they are telling stories through their work!

Ashley Roberts, who is also the President of Milligan’s Student Government Association, reflects on her journey in the interactive media design program. She’s learned valuable communication, analytical, and creative skills that have shaped her ability to tackle projects from fresh angles. “My favorite projects have been those that invite me to solve a challenge in a new way,” Roberts shares. “I find satisfaction in designs that combine creativity and intention to represent a story with care.”

Support from Mentors

All these students credit Milligan’s dedicated faculty with helping them grow not just as artists, but as individuals ready to embark on their professional journeys. The guidance they’ve received has nurtured their abilities and boosted their confidence. For Abbey Cartagena, Milligan has been more than just a school—it’s a place where her artistic gifts have truly bloomed. She feels incredibly grateful that the program has challenged her while also strengthening her unique talents.

A Curriculum Rooted in Faith

What’s remarkable about Milligan’s programs is not just the focus on design aesthetics and techniques but also their commitment to integrating Christian liberal arts into the learning experience. Students dive into the essential elements of design across various media, and they do so while aligning their academic and future professional ambitions with their faith. This holistic approach prepares them to face the world outside the university’s walls with conviction and creativity.

Join the Celebration!

The grand opening reception for “Pause” will be held on Sunday, November 17, from 2 to 4 PM. The event is absolutely free and open to the public, making it a fantastic opportunity for art lovers and community members alike to support these rising stars. So mark your calendars and prepare to immerse yourself in the creative spirit of Milligan University—it’s a show you won’t want to miss!

With so much talent on display, Johnson City is bound to experience a splash of color and creativity this fall. Come out, support these hardworking students, and take a moment to truly appreciate the art of pause.
