Gate City’s Local Bookstore Celebrates Independent Bookstore Day

Maple Tree Book Shop + Coffee House, a bookstore nestled in the heart of downtown Gate City, is all set to host a week-long celebration in honor of Independent Bookstore Day. Joining over 900 bookstores across the nation, Maple Tree Book Shop will pay tribute to the 11th anniversary of this special day that is officially marked on April 27th. This store, located on 101 E. Jackson Street, opened its doors to the community over nine months ago and has been a popular spot ever since.

Events Galore at Maple Tree Book Shop

Owner Caitie Cox shared her enthusiasm for their first Indie Bookstore Day celebration, expressing joy at having been able to share her love of reading with the Gate City community since the store’s opening in July. The bookstore has planned an array of exciting events to ring in the celebration, beginning from April 23. Visitors can look forward to giveaways, discounts, live music sessions, a storytime sleepover, and special guests.

Here’s the lowdown on what’s happening at the Maple Tree Book Shop + Coffee House:

April 23: Patrons can share a social media post about Indie Bookstore Day at the bookstore on Facebook and Instagram to enter a prize draw.

April 24: Anyone visiting the bookstore wearing a book-related or bookstore-specific shirt will enjoy a 10% discount on their purchase.

April 25: There will be live musical entertainment throughout the entire day as part of the celebrations.

April 26: Children are invited to wear their pajamas and leave their stuffed animals to spend a night at the store.

April 27: Local authors Jessica Brimer and Rita Quillen will be at the store, serving as honorary “Booksellers for a Day”. They will discuss their own works and recommend their favorite reads.
