An Exciting Week at Sullivan County Public Libraries From April 28 to May 4, 2024

This week promises an exciting line-up of activities and events at the Sullivan County Public Libraries. From regular reading sessions to unique contests and craft-making workshops, these libraries remain a lively center of community engagement.

Kicking off with the Summit Seekers Hiking Club

The Summit Seekers Hiking Club had inaugurated its first hike during the third week of April. The club encourages potential participants for their next hiking adventure in May to attend an informational and planning meeting on May 2, scheduled at 6 p.m. at the Blountville branch.

Spring Craft Market & Pet Photo Contest

Friends of the Blountville Library are organizing the Spring Craft Market on Saturday, May 4. The market coincides with the Tennessee Dancing Gourd Festival in Blountville and will be full of local vendors displaying their crafts and unique offerings, perfectly timed for Mother’s Day shopping.

In celebration of National Pet Month, the library is hosting a ‘Cutest Pet Contest’ where participants can submit a photo of their pet. The contest will happen both online and in-branch, with winners being decided by in-person votes. Entries to the contest will be accepted until May 27, and winners will be announced on May 31.

Summer Reading Program

For bookworms of all ages, the Summer Reading Program is set to start soon. Registrations will commence in May through the ReadSquared app. The initiative encourages enthusiastic readers to log their reading minutes, complete reading goals, and stand a chance to win exciting prizes.

For Children and Teens

The Preschool Storytimes sessions continue at all branches with the theme for this week revolving around primary colors and rainbows. There is also a special after-school storytime at the Bloomingdale branch for elementary students to relax and enjoy a carefully chosen chapter book.

For the Anime enthusiasts, the Blountville branch is hosting a Tween/Teen My Hero Academia Fan Night. Young patrons can take part in trivia, games, and enjoy snacks with fellow Anime fans. On the same note, the branch is starting a new Teen Horror Book Club.

Family Events

In coherence with the library-wide pet photo contest, the library is organizing a Pet Bandana DIY event on May 1 where participants can decorate a bandana for their pet. The library has also planned a Pet Care Class at Petworks in Kingsport, where patrons can learn about maintaining the health and happiness of their pets.

Events for Adults

Several weekly events include the Geri-Fit exercise sessions, Colonial Heights Book Club, chair yoga classes, Zumba classes, and knit/crochet clubs. A unique Q-Tip Lavender Plant Painting Craft is scheduled on Thursday at the Bloomingdale branch. Lastly, the Summit Seekers Hiking Club will host an information and planning night at the Blountville branch for the planned hikes in May.

These events put forward an array of options for the community members to engage, learn and enrich themselves. For more information, you can visit the library’s website or any branch in person.
