Exciting Week Coming Up at the Sullivan County Libraries

Sullivan County, May 5 – May 11, 2024

Sullivan County Public Library Gears Up for a Week Full of Interactive Activities

An eventful week is coming up at the Sullivan County Libraries, with a packed schedule of engaging activities for individuals of all age groups. From storytime sessions for kids to fitness classes for adults, the public libraries have much to offer from May 5-11, 2024.

Gardening enthusiasts will have a chance to participate in the Community Garden Work Day at the Blountville branch. With the aim of providing fresh veggies to the community throughout the summer, participants will work together to prepare and plant the library’s community garden from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.

Library-wide Pet Photo Contest

From May 5 to May 27, a library-wide Pet Photo Contest will also be underway. Residents are being encouraged to submit photos of their furry companions for a virtual pet parade. They can either apply online or bring a physical photo to their closest branch. Votes from patrons will decide the winner.

Children and Teens Activity List

Children and teens will have plenty to look forward to during the week. The libraries will offer Preschool Storytimes at each branch, centered around the theme of creating and fixing things. Each day of the week, a different branch will offer a storytime session. Other activities for the younger crowd will include Science with Daniel at the Colonial Heights branch and a rock painting party at the Sullivan Gardens branch.

Family and Adult Activities

Family events will include a Pet Care Class and Adoption Opportunity in collaboration with Petworks in Kingsport. There will also be an opportunity to watch “Muppet Treasure Island” at the Saturday Matinee hosted by the Blountville branch on May 11. The adults have not been left behind, as activities such as Geri-Fit and Chair Yoga classes, a Knit/Crochet Club, and a session on Retirement Basics with Eastman Credit Union are on the agenda.

Ongoing & Upcoming Children’s Events

In addition to weekly activities, several ongoing and upcoming events will cater to children. One such exciting event is the Children’s Classics Book Club at the Blountville branch, with this week’s discussion centered around “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” by Florence and Richard Atwater. Additionally, the libraries will offer a Teen No-Sew T-shirt Craft event and a chance for young ones to read to JB the Therapy Dog.

Branch Locations

Residents of Sullivan County are welcome to take part in these activities. All they need is to register by calling any of the Sullivan branches located in Blountville, Bloomingdale, Colonial Heights, Sullivan Gardens, or Thomas Memorial at Bluff City.

By engaging in these activities, Sullivan County residents will get a chance to enrich their knowledge, improve their fitness, and have fun while supporting their local libraries.
