As the summer season is winding down and fall is just around the corner, Labor Day weekend arrives as the perfect time for family and friends to enjoy some final sunny adventures before the weather turns cooler. This year, Lake View Dock in Sullivan County is a popular destination, with folks gearing up for a memorable weekend filled with water activities and family fun.
Joe Slagle, who is helping to oversee events at Lake View Dock, shared his excitement about the bustling weekend ahead. “It’s usually a very busy Labor Day weekend,” he mentioned. “There’s a lot of people planning their weekend around coming to the lake, so that’s the kinda thing we look forward to.” With this being one of the last hurrahs of the summer, everybody is eager to make the most of it.
Families are coming together to soak up the sun and make lasting memories by the water. Chris Arnold, who is looking forward to spending time with loved ones, expressed his enthusiasm: “It is kinda like the end of summer, we are excited to hang out with friends and family. We’ve got a huge group coming out to do some lake day stuff, to do some tubing with the boys and that sort of thing.”
The excitement is palpable among the younger crowd as well. The kids are even more thrilled, highlighting their excitement with their simple joys: “Eating spicy stuff,” they exclaimed enthusiastically. “Jumping off the cliff,” another chimed in. It’s clear they’re ready for a weekend full of laughter, food, and fun.
Another fantastic spot for Labor Day celebrations is Steele Creek Park in Bristol, Tennessee. Felicia Newton, Lindsey Bowers, and Curstyn Carr have made it a tradition to return to Bristol every year for a family reunion during this weekend.
Felicia Newton shared her sentimental reasons for the tradition. “I grew up in this area, moved to North Carolina, and we come back here every year for Labor Day weekend for a family reunion,” she explained. The sense of home and family is evidently strong for many people who gather here.
Lindsey Bowers added to the sentiments by reflecting on how valuable this time is: “Just being with my family, with my children not in school and getting to play in the splash pad, and be out in the sun,” she said. It’s a chance to disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle and just enjoy the simplicity of being together.
For Curstyn Carr, even though North Carolina is where she lives now, Bristol holds a special place in her heart. “Just being able to be with family, this weekend even though we are in North Carolina we still call this home,” she noted. The deep ties and fond memories created here continue to draw them back each year.
It’s evident from the conversations that this Labor Day weekend in Bristol, Tennessee, is shaping up to be one filled with joy, laughter, and cherished moments. Whether you’re at Lake View Dock splashing around or at Steele Creek Park enjoying a family reunion, everyone is relishing the chance to bask in the last glorious days of summer.
