Afternoon Rain Showers Expected in Kingsport, with a Twist of Snow

Good morning, Kingsport! Get ready as Mother Nature has quite the weather plan for us. As we step into Thursday, the forecast is filled with some interesting developments that will keep everyone on their toes.

Rain Showers Galore in the Morning

This Thursday morning, don’t forget to grab that umbrella! We’re bracing for some early rain showers that will likely stick around for a bit. The skies will be overcast for most of the day, with a high temperature hovering around a cool 55°F. Winds from the west will pick up the pace, gusting at speeds of 15 to 25 mph, so hold onto your hats!

Spring is in the Air!

Excitingly, Thursday marks the official arrival of spring at 5:01 AM, but it seems the weather didn’t get the memo quite yet. While we anticipate a 50% chance of rain, there’s a payoff on the horizon. As the day progresses, we may even catch a few breaks in the clouds by midday, giving a hint of hope that the sun will peek out before the day ends.

Snow in the Evening?

As we edge closer to evening, the forecast takes a chilly turn. Spotty showers may return, transitioning into flurries in the valleys and snow showers in the higher elevations. The expected rainfall totals for Thursday are under 0.25 inches, but if you’re up in the mountains, prepare for light snowfall accumulation at elevations above 2,500 feet as we move into Thursday night.

Cooler Nights Ahead

When the sun sets, bundle up! A drop in temperature is on the way, with lows expected around 28°F. The winds will shift to the west-northwest, tapering down to speeds of 10 to 20 mph. Clouds will clear out by late evening, leading to a crisp night sky that’s perfect for a moonlit stroll—if you’re brave enough to face the cold!

Weekend Warm-Up in Sight!

Looking ahead, Friday should bring a breath of fresh air with mostly sunny skies and temperatures that will feel more seasonally chill, landing between 51°F and 57°F. But don’t store away your jackets just yet; windy conditions are still in the forecast. However, as we slide into the weekend, we’re expecting a warming trend, with highs reaching the 60s. Saturday may bring a passing shower but overall should remain windy and stimulating.

What’s Next?

On Sunday, we’ll enjoy more of those partly cloudy and warmer conditions, setting the stage for another weather shift. Watch out for a chance of rain cropping up late Sunday into Monday, followed by a cool-down on Tuesday. Typically, this time of year in the Tri-Cities, we would see a normal high of 60°F and a low of about 36°F, so we’re definitely feeling the fluctuations.

Stay Safe and Mind the Wind!

Before you head out, keep in mind that a Red Flag/Fire Weather Warning is in effect for southeast Kentucky and the east Tennessee mountains and foothills through Thursday morning due to windy conditions. Additionally, a Wind Advisory is also in effect in the area, so exercise caution if you’re out and about, especially if you plan on hiking the beautiful trails at Bays Mountain Park.

So grab that umbrella, bundle up for the chilly evenings, and enjoy the variety that the weather is ready to throw our way in Kingsport this week!
