Crews swiftly execute repairs to stormwater pipe

Kingsport city work crews promptly addressed a sinkhole that developed on Clinchfield Street on Saturday, upon identifying the cause as a problem with a stormwater pipe. The successful resolution of the problem was announced on the city’s Kingsport Alerts Facebook page.

Sinkhole Location and Impact

Located near Press Street, the sinkhole formed almost directly in front of the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and the Kingsport City Schools building, and across the street from the Town Park Lofts Apartments. According to city spokesperson Matthew Lane, city crews replaced the broken stormwater pipe on the same day. He added, “fortunately, no vehicles were caught in the hole.”

Post-Repair Work

While the main work on the pipe has been completed, minor follow-up tasks remain. “They still need to place concrete and asphalt. That should happen this week,” Lane stated, indicating the speedy conclusion of the repair process.
