Minding Your Business: A Review of What’s new in Kingsport

As the temperatures increase, the business world in Kingsport also seems to be heating up with new stores, restaurants, and a myriad of events painting the town with vibrant hues of economic progress and excitement. Here’s the lowdown on some of the fresh happenings that took place recently in the business sector of the city.

New Store Openings

The widely recognized Dollar General, also referred to as the DG Market, opened its doors to the public last month in Lynn Garden. The store presents an extended array of grocery items, from fresh meats to wide-ranging fruits and vegetables, while also housing the regular products hallmark to the brand. Home decor and party preparations are also part of the stores’ spread. It is touted to employ 10 to 15 people, thereby contributing to the employment sector of the area.

Adding more flavor to the food sector, Eggs Up Grill opened another outlet on June 24 in Bristol. This becomes Ken Bates’s second of the five Eggs Up Grill locations he has franchised. The large eatery, stretching to 4,160 square feet, seats up to 130 people, offering a wholesome meal experience at 180 Stateline Center in Bristol, Virginia.

A Step towards Charity

In a benevolent move, Bristol Casino recently made significant donations to Alzheimer’s Association and Mountain Empire Older Citizens. The donations, amounting to $16,035.26, were collected through the Team Member Dining Room in the month of May, with both organizations each receiving aid of $8,017.63 respectively.

Adding Splash in Events

The city witnessed the MATE ROV, an underwater robotics competition recently. The event, which attracted an estimated 1,100 visitors to Kingsport, was reported to generate almost $2 million in economic impact for the area.

The city’s ribbon-cutting spree also continued with the Kingsport Chamber hosting the events for businesses such as Tele-Optics Inc., Summit Properties, and Kingsport Academy of Hair, among others.

Festivities in Full Swing

The Kingsport’s Red, White & BOOM! event, slated to take place at 5 p.m. Saturday celebrates Independence Day with delightful music performances and ends with an enthralling fireworks display around 9:45 p.m. Downtown Kingsport sees the setting up of the main stage, making room for attendees to enjoy the festivities with their comfortable lawn chairs and blankets.

The Friday Lunchtime Live concert stands as another attraction through July 19 taking place at Glen Bruce Park in Kingsport. With free concerts each Friday at noon through July 19, the event also hosts a food truck to cater to the hunger pangs of attendees.

The Twilight Alive Summer Concert Series continues through July 19, with performances scheduled from Flatline Band on July 12 and Fun Fest’s Broad Street Boogie featuring Conch Republic on July 19.

With an array of events and openings, it isn’t wrong to state that Kingsport is transforming into a buzzing economic hub with a thriving business scene coupled with an equally engaging entertainment sector.
