It’s not just about the reading; this event helps support local literacy programs, making it a wonderful opportunity to grab great reads while giving back to the community.
For those eager to get a head start, preview sales kick off on February 27, 2025, from 5 PM to 9 PM. A small entry fee of $10 will get you in before the crowds start pouring in. If you’re affiliated with academia, you can attend an academic preview sale on February 29 from 7 PM to 9 PM for just $5. Remember, bringing along your faculty or student ID can help streamline your entry!
The fair will officially open its doors for everyone on Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 7 PM, and on Sunday, from 12:45 PM to 5 PM. With over 30 categories available, including books, vinyl records, audiobooks, music CDs, and even DVDs, there will be something for everyone. So whether you’re into gripping fiction, insightful non-fiction, or delicious cookbooks, you will find plenty to choose from!
You’ll be pleased to know that most of the items for sale have been generously donated, meaning you can snag books at prices ranging from 25 cents to $5. Just a heads-up: for purchases under $25, it’s cash only, while major credit cards will be accepted for purchases over $25.
Get ready for some fantastic deals! After 4 PM on Saturday, all items will be available at half-price. And if you’re shopping on Sunday, you won’t want to miss out on the $10 bag sale—that’s right, a bag full of books for only ten bucks!
This year’s fair is introducing some exciting new categories, including one focused on fitness and wellness. Plus, don’t forget to check out the Regional Interest section which will highlight works about the Appalachian region, showcasing local talents like Ron Rash and Adriana Trigiani. It’s a chance to discover and celebrate the stories that emerge from our very own backyard.
Last year’s event generated a whopping $32,000 in sales, funds that go directly to support local literacy programs. This year, a fresh influx of donated items from the Kingsport Public Library, which is currently relocating in the city for renovations, promises to provide a diverse selection of goods for attendees to explore and enjoy.
The Kingsport Book Fair wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of the Friends of the Library, the Literacy Council of Kingsport, and the Sullivan County Imagination Library Board. They have all come together to make this event a success, and with your participation, it can be even more impactful!
So gather your friends and family, prepare your reading list, and head down to the Kingsport Book Fair. It’s not just a chance to load up on books; it’s your opportunity to make a difference in the community. Happy reading!
