Johnson City Prepares for Thanksgiving with Return of Turkey Trot 5K Race

Johnson City Gears Up for Thanksgiving with Annual Turkey Trot 5K

As the leaves turn golden and the air gets a bit crisper, Johnson City is buzzing with excitement for a cherished Thanksgiving tradition that’s sure to bring the community together. Yes, you guessed it—the famous Turkey Trot 5K is making its much-anticipated return this year on Thanksgiving morning!

Mark Your Calendars!

On Nov. 28, at the bright and early hour of 8:30 a.m., runners and walkers will line up on E State of Franklin to kick off this fun-filled race. The course will take participants through the charming streets of downtown, winding through the picturesque Tree Streets, before finishing at the TVA Credit Union Ballpark. It’s not just a race; it’s a chance to soak in the spirit of the holiday and earn that extra slice of pumpkin pie!

Registration Details

If you’re feeling the spirit and want in on the action, registration for the 5K officially opened last Friday. You can easily sign up online or swing by the Memorial Park Community Center to grab a registration form. The cost to participate is quite reasonable too—just $30 for adults and $25 for students.

Don’t forget to pick up your race packet at the community center on Nov. 26 and 27. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet fellow trotters and build up that holiday excitement!

A Cause Close to the Heart

This year, the Turkey Trot is not only about getting active but also giving back. All proceeds from the event will go towards a great cause. According to the event organizer and local commissioner, Jenny Brock, there’s a pressing need for new shoes for children in the community. “There’s a real need for shoes and new shoes,” she explained. “You know, the kids are getting a lot of kind of gifted items coming down, but everybody needs their own pair of shoes that are theirs, and so that’s where it will go.”

So not only will you be getting a good workout, but you’ll also be helping to ensure that kids in Johnson City have their very own pair of shoes this holiday season. How’s that for a win-win?

Calling All Volunteers!

Of course, any successful event like this relies on the support of volunteers. If you’re interested in lending a hand, there’s plenty of opportunity to get involved! Visit the Turkey Trot’s official website to find out how you can contribute to this wonderful community event.

Get Ready for a Glorious Thanksgiving Day!

So whether you’re a seasoned runner looking to beat your personal best or someone who simply wants to stroll along with family and friends, mark your calendar for this Thanksgiving Day. Don those running shoes, grab your loved ones, and join in on a morning of fun, fitness, and fellowship.

The Turkey Trot 5K is not just another race—it’s a chance to come together, stay fit, and support a meaningful cause during the season of giving. Let’s make this Thanksgiving a day to remember in Johnson City!
