Johnson City Honors JCPD Officers for Leadership Academy Graduation

Johnson City Celebrates Graduates from Leadership Academy

On a bright and sunny Friday, October 25, the city of Johnson City came together to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of three dedicated officers from the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD). In a ceremony filled with pride and excitement, Captain Mike Adams, Lieutenant Andy Clevinger, and Lieutenant Jeff LeGault graduated from Session XI of the Southeastern Leadership Academy (SELA) hosted by the University of Tennessee Law Enforcement Innovation Center. This five-week intensive program took place at the beautiful University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Training for Tomorrow’s Leaders

During their time at SELA, the officers participated in a series of thematic lessons that focused on essential aspects of leadership. Each week delved into critical topics including the foundations of leadership, enhancing leadership skills, building strong relationships with external partners, addressing internal matters, and tackling critical issues facing law enforcement today. The challenges presented by the academy are designed specifically for professionals in middle management roles, providing them with the tools necessary to refine their leadership styles and become progressive leaders.

Community Commitment

In attendance at the graduation were city officials including the Police Chief, Billy Church, and City Manager, Cathy Ball. Chief Church was absolutely thrilled with the completion of the program by these three officers. He remarked, “These three officers are committed to continuous improvement for themselves and the JCPD. Their completion of this challenging program reflects their dedication to professional growth and excellence in leadership. We are excited about the positive impact their leadership will continue to bring to the JCPD and the residents of Johnson City.”

Cathy Ball also expressed her pride in the officers’ achievements. “Through SELA, our officers have gained enhanced expertise that makes them even more equipped to serve our community. The City is proud to make the investment of ongoing training for members of the JCPD and other City departments,” she said with enthusiasm.

Roles and Responsibilities

As for the officers themselves, they each play important roles within the department. Captain Adams leads the JCPD Criminal Investigations Division, where he applies his skills to solve complex cases and provide justice to victims. Lieutenant Clevinger is at the helm of the JCPD Training Division, responsible for ensuring other officers receive the best training possible. Lieutenant LeGault oversees the JCPD K-9 Unit, working closely with these furry companions to enhance police operations.

Looking Ahead

The community of Johnson City is very fortunate to have such dedicated individuals serving in these critical positions. The skills and knowledge aquired from the Southeastern Leadership Academy will undoubtedly be invaluable to their professional journeys and by extension, will benefit the community as a whole. With a strong commitment to ongoing education and leadership development, these officers exemplify what it means to be servant leaders.

As Johnson City continues to grow and evolve, it’s reassuring to know that our law enforcement is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. Congratulations to Captain Mike Adams, Lieutenant Andy Clevinger, and Lieutenant Jeff LeGault on their graduation and their commitment to making Johnson City a safer place for all!
