Johnson City Welcomes Community Input for Future Land Use Map

Residents Encouraged to Participate in Upcoming Sessions

Hey there, Johnson City! Exciting times are upon us as the Planning and Development Services Department is reaching out to the community for feedback on a new Future Land Use Map. This is a big deal, folks! This map will play a key role in shaping the neighborhoods, parks, and business areas of our beloved city for years to come.

Earlier this year, in October 2023, the city held multiple sessions to gather feedback from the community. These sessions included advisory committee meetings, stakeholder events, community workshops, and a digital engagement series. The goal? To hear as many voices as possible before finalizing this vital document.

What’s the Future Land Use Map All About?

You might be wondering what a Future Land Use Map is and why it matters. Well, let’s break it down. This map isn’t just a collection of pretty lines and colors. It helps outline future characteristics, density, and zoning restrictions throughout the city. Essentially, it will guide development, helping ensure that Johnson City grows in a way that meets the needs and wishes of its residents.

According to Planning Consultant Whitney Hodges, “The team of planners who have crafted this Future Land Use Map is in the final stages, a crucial part of the process. We need your input to finalize this guiding document, which will significantly influence Johnson City’s growth. Your participation is essential.”

Make Your Voice Heard!

Now, here’s where you come in, dear residents! The city is actively encouraging you to raise any concerns or share feedback on any issues that may not have been addressed in those earlier input sessions. This is your chance to play an active role in shaping the future of your community!

Mark your calendars for December 11! On this day, two public sessions will take place at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts, located at 1320 West State of Franklin Road. The first session will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the second will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It’s a perfect opportunity to express your thoughts, ask questions, or just learn more about what’s on the horizon for Johnson City.

How to Participate?

If you can’t make it to the sessions but still want your voice to be heard, no worries! You can check out the Future Land Use Map and provide your feedback online before the meetings. Every bit of input counts!

By participating, you’re not just helping with a document; you’re contributing to a vision for a better community. Whether it’s about where new parks should go or how to improve business areas, every suggestion matters. After all, it’s not just about planning for today but also about ensuring a bright future for generations to come.

Let’s Shape Our City Together!

Johnson City is a vibrant place full of potential, and with your help, we can make sure it continues to thrive. So grab your calendars, take some time to think about what you’d like to see in your community, and come out to share your thoughts. Together we can ensure our beloved city grows in a way that benefits everyone!

Remember, your contributions are what makes Johnson City special. Let’s come together as a community and lend our voices to this important conversation. We can’t wait to see you there!
