Unicoi, Tennessee, Remembers Jerry Thomas Storie: A Life Filled with Love and Community Service

It is with a heavy heart that the community of Unicoi, Tennessee, bids farewell to a remarkable individual, Jerry Thomas Storie, who passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on March 30, 2025. Jerry’s life was a beautiful tapestry, woven with threads of love for his family and a deep commitment to his community.

Born on August 23, 1943, in Carter County, Tennessee, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Harold Storie Sr. and Virgie (Jones) Storie. He was the cherished brother of Harold Storie Jr., Paul Storie, Floyd Storie, and Kenneth Storie, and was also preceded in death by his sisters Clarice Storie and Bernese Storie Johnson. The loss of his son-in-law Lee Campbell, along with several brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, further deepened the family’s sorrow.

Throughout his lifetime, Jerry excelled in his career as a roofing supervisor, showcasing a strong work ethic and a dedication to his craft. But beyond his profession, Jerry was well-known for his *infectious smile* and his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 56 years, Gail Storie, and a proud father to his two daughters, Melissa (Lance) Haun and Amanda (Chad) Johnson.

Jerry had a profound impact on those around him, with a special place in his heart for his niece, Lisa (Stewart) Fulton, who he cherished as if she were a daughter. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Makayla (Quentin) Arnold, Noah (Hanna) Campbell, Dylan (Michelle) Campbell, Paul Johnson, Charity Johnson, Kilby (Joe) Birchfield, Kaityln (Cody) Holsclaw, and Emily Bryant. As a grandfather, Jerry’s love knew no bounds, and his joyous spirit will surely be missed by all his family members, including his sisters Carolyn Boggs and Freida McKinney.

Jerry’s love for life extended beyond his family, as he was also a dedicated member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. His faith was an important aspect of who he was, and his love for Jesus shone brightly in everything he did. Alongside his *spiritual pursuits*, Jerry was also a passionate sports fan, enjoying Tennessee football, basketball, fishing, camping, and watching exciting racing events.

Affectionately remembered for his contributions to the community, Jerry was involved with several organizations, including the Unicoi Masonic Lodge No. 681, the Jericho Shrine Temple, and the Unicoi Shrine Temple. These affiliations showcased his commitment to service and brotherhood within the community.

The community is invited to a service celebrating Jerry’s life on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton. Members of the clergy, including Pastors Gary Whitehead, Dexter Brummitt, and Bob Campbell will officiate the service, with the musical accompaniment provided by the talented Gail McClure. Before the service, friends and family are welcome to gather from 5 to 7 p.m., creating a warm atmosphere to share memories and support one another. A Masonic service will follow the celebration of life, reflecting Jerry’s commitment to fraternal bonds.

The final farewell will take place with a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Tolley Cemetery in Limestone Cove. Active pallbearers include Jerry’s grandsons and sons-in-law, ensuring his family stands by him in this moment of reflection. Honorary pallbearers will also be recognized for their special relationships with Jerry.

During this challenging time, the family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Megan Long and the staff at Amedisys Hospice. Such support has made a significant difference in their lives as they navigated Jerry’s illness.
