Johnson City Ramps Up Holiday Giving with Salvation Army Support
As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of generosity is alive and well in Johnson City! This year, The Salvation Army is stepping up their efforts to support those in need, and with a hefty kettle match donation of $10,000 from Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC, BCS Wealth Management, and First Covenant Trust & Advisors, they are getting a big boost right when it counts the most.
A Day of Service to Make a Difference
This coming Friday, December 6, community members can look forward to a day of giving. These local companies are not just opening their wallets; they are also rolling up their sleeves! Volunteers will be out in full force, ringing those iconic Salvation Army kettles across six locations in Johnson City, encouraging residents to chip in and support those who are struggling during this festive time.
The Impact of Donations
Every penny raised during the holiday season will help fund vital programs that the Army provides. For the year, The Salvation Army in Johnson City provides over 17,000 nights of stay in shelter, serves more than 51,000 meals, and distributes 17,000 snacks. They are truly making a difference in the community, offering not just food and shelter, but a helping hand that lasts beyond the holiday season.
During colder months, The Salvation Army also implements the White Flag program, which allows them to provide emergency shelter for up to 25 additional individuals. It’s all part of their commitment to provide a warm bed and a safe place for those who need it most. Thanks to close partnerships with local organizations, any overflow guests can also find shelter for the night.
Support Doesn’t End Here
Throughout the year, The Salvation Army does even more. They offer food boxes and support for utilities and rent when the funds allow, ensuring that help reaches our neighbors who are facing tough times. And let’s not forget their special holiday program, the Angel Tree, which brightens the season for many families by providing clothes and toys to children and teens.
