Be sure to get your tickets if you haven’t already, as this concert is expected to fill the chapel with the sweet sounds of the season!

Storytime with Santa

If you’re looking for a festive experience for the kiddos, make plans to join the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department and the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library for Storytime with Santa. Happening on Saturday, December 21, from 1 PM to 5 PM, this event promises to be a delightful day for everyone!

There are two special sessions to choose from! From 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, you can enjoy a Sensory-Friendly Storytime Hour, where a calm and quiet environment will fill the air with holiday joy. After that, from 3 PM to 5 PM, there will be a more traditional Storytime featuring inflatables, upbeat music, and of course, a chance to snuggle up with Santa! Best of all, this event is absolutely free! Free books will also be provided, while supplies last, courtesy of the local library.

Winter Stories by the Fire

For those who love a good campfire story, Winter Stories by the Fire is the perfect way to spend a chilly morning! Join Park Ranger Taylor Moorefield on Friday, December 20, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Sycamore Shoals State Park. Nestled inside a cozy log cabin, you’ll hear traditional tales featuring the holiday spirit from the 18th century. Discover exciting stories about General Washington’s daring crossing of the Delaware or how Davy Crockett saved the day. A small fee of $8 for adults and $4 for youth aged 7 to 17 applies, and registration is a must!

Stuffed Animal Adoption Event

Also on the agenda for December 21 is a fantastic Stuffed Animal Adoption Event at the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library from 11 AM to 1 PM. Children can create their very own animal collar and tag, receive an official adoption certificate, and munch on some festive treats. With 200 stuffed animals up for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis, this event is certain to be a hit! Hosted by the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, it’s an adorable way to ring in the holidays.

Start the New Year with a Hike!

As 2025 approaches, what better way to welcome the new year than with a First Day Hike? On January 1, 2025, join the park staff for a guided walk through Sycamore Shoals State Park at 10 AM. Discover the historical significance of the area while enjoying the great outdoors. Just a heads up—some parts of the walk might be a bit uneven, so wear your hiking shoes! Registration in advance is required.
