BRISTOL – Exciting news for health enthusiasts and community members! Dr. Samuel Brashears has joined the impressive team of healthcare providers at Holston Medical Group’s (HMG) Primary Care at Sapling Grove. This esteemed location can be found at 240 Medical Park Blvd., Suite 300, Bristol. Dr. Brashears, who now calls the HMG family home, brings a compassionate, community-focused approach to his medical practice.
Dr. Brashears’ journey into the medical field is a heartfelt story. He grew up with his mother, an experienced Emergency Room nurse, whose dedication and experiences planted early inspirations in his young mind.
“I frequently saw patients coming in with life-altering conditions that could have been prevented or improved in a clinic setting weeks beforehand,” Dr. Brashears recalls.
As a native of the Appalachian region, Dr. Brashears has a strong desire to give back to the community that shaped him. The importance of early detection and prevention is not lost on him. He is a firm believer that high levels of coordination at the primary care level can lead to happier, healthier, and more financially stable patients.
Dr. Brashears is excited to work with the HMG team, emphasizing a philosophy of whole-person healthcare. This approach focuses on providing families with personalized, empathetic care that is not only high-quality but also affordable. One of the advantages he sees in joining HMG is the ability to refer patients within the HMG Family of Care.
“Being able to refer my patients within the HMG Family of Care provides a high level of coordination that patients deserve,” Dr. Brashears explains. This seamless transition for patients needing additional care in over thirty different specialties and services is crucial.
Dr. Brashears points out that while visits to the ER or hospital stays are major events, life does not stop for patients during these challenging times. His goal is to work closely with his team to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and the associated expenses, frustrations, and hardships that often accompany them.
Dr. Brashears completed his medical training at East Tennessee State’s Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, TN. He followed this with a residency at ETSU Family Medicine Associates, also in Johnson City. This strong academic foundation has prepared him well for his role at HMG.
But it’s not all work and no play! Outside of his medical career, Dr. Brashears enjoys various outdoor activities. He loves hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Dr. Brashears and his fiancé also have a knack for home improvement projects. When he’s not out exploring or working on a cozy home, you might find him rebuilding classic Toyota 4Runners—a testament to his hands-on and meticulous nature.
