Fischman Gallery Announces Upcoming April Exhibit

The Fischman Gallery of Johnson City, TN announced an upcoming exhibition for the month of April, featuring local artist, Taylor Norris. Starting Friday, April 5, the gallery will house a selection of Norris’s works under the title “Torn Between: Collage and Paper Pulp Paintings”.

About Taylor Norris

Taylor Norris received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in painting from East Tennessee State University in 2013. Over the years, she has gained recognition as a mixed media artist, especially for her collage making skills. For Norris, art is a way to connect with her Appalachian roots and various life experiences. Her works often combine torn or cut pieces from different sources to form a new, harmonious whole.

About the Exhibit

The exhibit aims to showcase the beauty of Norris’s craft and the depth of her thought process, narrating stories from her personal experiences and reflections. The opening night on April 5 will feature an exclusive gala reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Artist’s Expression

Norris expresses through her works, the torn between effect of her Appalachian roots and reputable life experiences. She said, “When I use collage, I always choose pieces that unite to tell a story or express a particular feeling. These could be images or textures that inspire me or pieces that I simply find beautiful. Each artwork is a culmination of who I am and the world through my lens”.

Fischman Gallery’s Support for Local Artists

Fischman Gallery has always been a strong supporter of local artists in East Tennessee. They believe in providing a platform for artists to showcase their works and reach a wider audience. The upcoming exhibit featuring Taylor Norris is another step in this direction.

Fischman Gallery’s Dedication to the Community

Along with supporting local artists, Fischman Gallery is also dedicated to inspiring and educating the community through art. They often organise various arts events, exhibitions, and workshops to engage with the community and create a culture of art appreciation.

Embracing Mixed Media Art

In an age where digital art forms are gaining popularity, Taylor Norris’ use of traditional collage and paper pulp painting offers a refreshing take. It represents a merging of the old and new, a characteristic trait of mixed media art. With the upcoming exhibition, Fischman Gallery aims to inspire more artists to explore and experiment with mixed media art.
