Exciting Fall Learning Opportunities in Kingsport
Hey there, Kingsport! Are you ready to dive into a world of knowledge this fall? The Kingsport Alliance for Continued Learning (KACL) is back with a fantastic lineup of courses starting from October 15 and running through November 22. Whether you want to brush up on your science skills, explore social studies, delve into religion, or get creative with the arts, there’s something for everyone!
What’s in Store?
This six-week series of non-credit courses, offered in partnership with East Tennessee State University (ETSU), is all about learning for the joy of it. What makes KACL special? Well, there are no homework assignments, grades, or tests—just pure enjoyment and discovery.
Classes will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in room 130 at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education, located at 300 W. Market St.. The best part? It only costs $30 to participate in most of the KACL fall courses. While some special events and field trips may require additional fees, many of these courses offer amazing value for your money.

- “Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Plastics”: Join chemist Dan Firth as he talks about the role of producers in managing plastic waste.
- “The Apostle Paul: From Antioch to Zeal, Part 2”: Explore the travels and teachings of Paul with retired chemist Dave Petke.
- “The Latest from the United States Supreme Court”: Get insights from retired trial attorney Leslie Lynch on significant Supreme Court updates.
- “The Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Pollinator Habitat Program”: Learn about this important initiative from Mike Ross, an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
- “All Things Eastman!”: Experience a special tour of the Eastman facility with representatives from the company.
- “A Snapshot History of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Its Neighbors”: This engaging class led by local author Greg Case will provide a fascinating look at regional history.
- “The Surprising Lives of Christian Saints”: Join Marie O’Neill and Kathie Owens for a revealing exploration of saints throughout history.

Getting involved with KACL is easy! Classes will be available both in-person and virtually via Zoom, making it convenient for everyone to join in. Plus, if you’re unsure about committing just yet, you can attend one class free of charge to see if it’s a good fit for you!
