Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show

First up, mark your calendars for the 29th Annual Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show! This fun-filled event opens on Friday, October 4, at the beautiful Sycamore Shoals State Park and runs for three full days. Sponsored by the enthusiastic Sycamore Shoals Stitchers, the exhibition promises a feast for the eyes with an array of stunning quilts. Expect to see everything from cozy bed quilts to charming miniatures and even some delightful holiday and baby quilts.

What’s more, there will be demonstrations by talented local quilters, giving you a chance to learn and maybe even pick up a few tips yourself! Admission to this lovely showcase is completely free, so gather your friends and family and head over. Just a little note, the visitor center does close from noon to 1 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly!

A Night of Southern Gospel at Milligan College

Next on the agenda, get ready for a night of uplifting music at A Night of Southern Gospel on Saturday, October 5, at 7 p.m. at Seeger Chapel, Milligan College. This event, sponsored by the Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church, features the renowned Karen Peck & New River, along with special guests Phillips and Banks. With a career spanning almost 30 years, Karen Peck has truly made her mark on the Gospel Music Scene. She’s a five-time Grammy nominee and has snagged seven GMA Dove awards, not to mention her induction into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2018. It’s sure to be an uplifting experience!

Death Comes to Sabine Hill

For those who enjoy a touch of history mixed with a bit of intrigue, Death Comes to Sabine Hill is an event not to be missed! Scheduled for October 18 and 19, visitors can explore the fascinating customs, superstitions, and traditions surrounding death in Early America. This unique experience includes a special after-hours tour of the historic Taylor House, with opportunities to witness historically dressed interpreters demonstrating various mourning customs.

Visitors will be able to pay respects at a reenacted wake while learning about professions associated with funerals in that era. Please note, this event is best suited for older audiences, and parental discretion is advised. Tours run every half hour from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and admission is $14 per person. Pre-registration is a must for this one, so don’t wait too long!

Soup Bean Luncheon and Silent Auction

Last but definitely not least, the Soup Bean Luncheon and Silent Auction is set for Friday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elizabethton Senior Center. This is not just a chance to enjoy some hearty soup beans, slaw, cornbread, dessert, and drinks, but it’s also a wonderful way to support our local senior center! Tickets can be purchased at the door, and the event is open to everyone, so bring along your family and friends for a delicious meal and a good cause.
