Welcome to Johnson City, where the sun is shining a little brighter this March at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Get ready for a month packed full of activities that promise to entertain, educate, and inspire everyone in the campus community and beyond!
Hold on to your hats! On March 27-28, the Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band Blue Highway will take the stage for a sensational live album recording. This event not only celebrates the band’s incredible 30th anniversary, but it also promises an unforgettable experience for fans. Tickets are available for general admission at $35, or if you’re looking to elevate your evening, snag a VIP experience ticket for $70.
Before the bluegrass excitement, there’s a special Music Faculty Recital on March 26. Titled ‘Living Legacy: Exploring Music of John Stevens,’ this concert showcases the talents of Dr. Steph Frye-Clark as she shares beautiful pieces crafted by the late composer. Join us in Powell Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of music that pays tribute to a lasting legacy.
Also on March 27, you won’t want to miss the ETSU Orchestra along with the men’s ensemble BucsWorth as they present a heartfelt Send-Off Concert. Film enthusiasts can mark March 27 as well to catch a special screening of the documentary “Agee” by Ross Spears. From 4-8 p.m., join in at the Reece Museum and Bud Frank Theatre to celebrate cultural contributions through this fascinating film.
Families, don’t miss out on a fantastic live performance of “Sesame Street Live! Say Hello” featuring beloved characters such as Elmo and Cookie Monster on March 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets for this show range from $42.95 to $109.39, so grab your little ones and get ready for a day of fun!
The Reece Museum is bursting with creativity this month! The exhibit featuring Patricia Mink’s works, titled ‘Pat Mink: Layered,’ will be available to enjoy through April 4 during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Meanwhile, another exhibition, ‘Layered Influence,’ showcases works from 14 former students of Mink.
The MFA exhibition by Annie Hutchins, called ‘Held On by a Thread,’ is running from March 6-28. Make sure to catch the First Friday opening reception on March 7 from 6-8 p.m. Don’t forget to check out the enlightening planetarium show, ‘The Origin of Time’ on March 20 at 7 p.m. at Hutcheson Hall!
Next, for the anime, comics, and cosplay lovers, ETSU-Con 2025 is happening on March 29-30 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.. With tickets ranging from free to $35, it’s a cozy environment to geek out and meet fellow enthusiasts—so don’t miss it!
