Harlan County, Ky. – The buzz in Harlan County is all about basketball star Maddox Huff. The talented guard just announced he’s taking his talents to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) to continue his basketball journey. After a phenomenal year with the Black Bears, which saw them claim their 13th region title and compete in the state championship game, this is a huge step forward for him!
During the 2023-24 season, Maddox really shone on the court. His efforts didn’t just help his team win, but they also put Harlan County on the map in the basketball world. The Black Bears finished strong, pulling through to a state championship game and turning heads with their impressive performance. It’s clear that this young athlete has got serious skills!
It’s no surprise that Maddox has big dreams. He’s always aspired to play at the Division I level, putting in the hard work and dedication needed to reach that goal. When he announced his commitment to Brooks Savage and the Bucs, it was a moment filled with joy, pride, and a real sense of accomplishment.
“Growing up, it was always my main goal to go Division I,” Huff shared with excitement. “It really speaks volumes to show what I can do and show that if I put my mind to it, work as hard as I can and keep my faith in Jesus, then anything can happen.”
This past winter, Maddox really made a name for himself at the prestigious 2023 Arby’s Classic in Bristol, Tennessee. The competition was fierce, but he held his own and ultimately led the Black Bears to a solid fifth-place finish against some really tough teams. They only lost to the eventual champions, Kell from Georgia, and that’s no small feat! Maddox’s performance was instrumental in that success, and it has set a high bar for future players from Harlan County.
As he prepares to join the Buccaneers, there’s a sense of anticipation in the air not just for Maddox, but for all his fans and supporters back in Harlan County. Many are already excited to see what he will bring to ETSU. Not only does this give him the chance to showcase his talent on a bigger stage, but it also shines a light on the incredible talent coming from this small town. It’s proof that dreams really can come true with hard work and determination!
The Harlan County community is rallying around Maddox, and it’s heartwarming to see. Local fans, friends, and family are bursting with pride over his achievements. They’ve followed his journey closely and can’t wait for the next chapter to unfold at ETSU. This commitment to play Division I basketball is a testament to the support system he has at home, which includes coaches, teammates, and, of course, the enthusiastic fans cheering him on every step of the way!
With his sights set on the college level, Maddox Huff is more than ready to embrace the challenges ahead. He’s a player with determination and faith, and no doubt he’ll keep working hard to make the most of this golden opportunity. As Harlan County watches him grow and develop over the next few years, one thing is for sure – the spirit of basketball will continue to thrive in this vibrant community.
