Elizabethton’s Senior Center has released a week-long schedule, offering a variety of activities for local seniors from Monday, April 15 to Friday, April 19. Located at 428 East G Street, the center offers renowned holistic workouts, craft sessions, engaging group-led games and nutritious meals that cater to seniors aged 55 and above.
The senior center operates from Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Both the billiard room and the fitness room are open throughout these hours with no prior appointment needed.
The day starts with a group-led “Just Keep Movin'” exercise session at 9 a.m., featuring cardio workouts, toning and strength-building exercises. Post-workout, a hearty lunch of Chicken Fried Steak is served at 11 a.m.
Following lunch, the center offers yoga sessions led by Yoga Farm instructors. Chair yoga with Shirley Gomillian commences at 12:15 p.m. followed by Gentle Flow Yoga with Cindy Brugnoletti at 1:30 p.m. Both sessions are priced at $3 each.
The UT Extension leads a seminar titled “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” at 9:30 a.m. The center then serves a lunch of Spaghetti & Meat Sauce at 11 a.m. followed by a line dancing session, led by Sharon Pilk at 12 p.m. Priced at $3, this session brings good cheer. On Tuesday, from 6 to 7 p.m., the center also facilitates the “Families Raising Families” gathering at the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, specifically for grandparents and relatives raising children.
These days essentially maintain a similar routine with activities like “Just Keep Movin'” held at 9:00 a.m. and craft sessions to paint a wooden birdhouse on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Lunch is served at 11 a.m. on both days with Wednesday’s meal being Grilled Chicken Breast and Thursday’s, Soup Beans.
Yoga classes with Shirley Gomillian and Cindy Brugnoletti continue on Wednesday. Thursday, however, offers a unique Qigong class with trainer Adina at 12 p.m.
The final day of the week resumes with “Just Keep Movin'” at 9:00 a.m. followed by a fun Bingo session, sponsored by Visiting Angels at 10 a.m. and concludes with a lunch of Shepherd’s Pie at 11 a.m.
Gail Berry, the trip planner for the center, has two exciting journeys in store. A 13-Day trip to New Brunswick priced at $2,350 is set for August 19-31. A 4-Day trip to the Lancaster Show & The Dutch Country is scheduled for October 7-10 and costs $665.
