Elizabethton Welcomes Support from Israel After Hurricane Helene
On a warm Wednesday afternoon, the community of Elizabethton was filled with hope and gratitude as representatives from Israel made a special visit. Just about a month after the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene swept through the region, the Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States, Anat Sultan-Dadon, along with her team from Atlanta, arrived at the Elizabethton Church of Christ with truckloads of much-needed supplies and kind words of encouragement.
Strength in Unity
Sultan-Dadon, who has proudly served in her position since 2019, expressed her heartfelt sentiments during the visit. “Now we have the privilege of being here with our friends here in eastern Tennessee to convey our support,” she stated. “It’s important for me to convey Israel’s support.” Her words resonated deeply with the local community, highlighting the importance of standing together in times of need.
The visit aimed to provide aid to those affected by Hurricane Helene, which wreaked havoc in late September. “We support you and want to provide a little bit of aid to our friends,” Sultan-Dadon added. Her passion for fostering strong relationships between Israel and various southeastern states, including Tennessee, was evident as she connected with the residents.

Joining Sultan-Dadon were distinguished members of the Georgia General Assembly: Rep. Brent Cox, Rep. Rick Jasperse, and Rep. Lauren McDonald. With genuine warmth, Rep. The day before, the group had visited areas in western North Carolina, also impacted by the hurricane. Sultan-Dadon shared her impression of the resilience she observed in the mountains, a trait she believes aligns closely with the spirit of the Israeli people.

During their tour, the delegation made sure to bring essential items for those in need. From basic necessities such as diapers to lifesaving generators, the supplies they delivered aimed to alleviate the hardships experienced by many residents. The Elizabethton Church of Christ, which has become a disaster relief distribution center, has played a vital role in helping locals cope with the aftermath of the hurricane. Minister Todd Houston expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s a privilege to be a servant.”

She previously visited North Augusta, South Carolina, expressing solidarity with its residents as well. “The U.S. is Israel’s most important ally in the world,” she said, reminding everyone of the powerful connections that exist between nations, especially in times of crisis.
