Gunfire Shakes Elizabethton: Two Arrested in Separate Incidents

Residents of Elizabethton woke up to a shockingly busy Thursday morning with not one, but two arrests stemming from incidents involving gunfire. It seems that tensions in this peaceful city ran high, with both men facing serious charges and local law enforcement having their hands full.

First Incident: Frustration Turns Dangerous

The first arrest involved 47-year-old Thomas Robert Gambrel, who found himself in hot water after firing shots from his property on Landfill Road. Gambrel was reportedly frustrated with the noisy trucks passing by his home and decided to take matters into his own hands.

Two dump truck drivers, who were momentarily stopped in front of Gambrel’s house, quickly became alarmed when they heard gunshots. In a twist of fate, one of the drivers recalled a prior confrontation where Gambrel had warned him not to use jake brakes, threating to shoot if the noise persisted. It’s safe to say that the tension in the air was thick!

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found six spent shell casings nearby. To add to the drama, Gambrel was discovered carrying a pistol in a side holster when deputies approached him. Gambrel explained that his actions were driven by frustration over the noise, leading to his arrest on two counts of aggravated assault.

Currently, Gambrel is being held without bond at the Carter County Detention Center as he awaits arraignment. The issue of noise complaints escalating to gunfire has left many in the neighborhood shaking their heads in disbelief.

Second Incident: Recklessness in the Neighborhood

Douglas Allen Gibson, faced even graver accusations. Gibson was arrested for shooting into an occupied garage on Sims Hill Road. Talk about a day gone wrong! Carter County Detention Center pending arraignment.
