Elizabethton Veterans to Receive Food Assistance Just in Time for the Holidays
In the charming city of Elizabethton, plans are underway to support local veterans and their families during the holiday season. One remarkable event is happening this Friday, December 13, at 2 p.m., thanks to a partnership between the VFW Post 2166 and its Auxiliary, along with the wonderful folks at Second Harvest Food Bank.
A Special Food Distribution Event
Families who are finding it tough to make ends meet this season will be able to secure a food box at this drive-thru distribution event. The location? Right at the VFW Post, situated at 2001 West Elk Ave. It’s a simple way to help ensure that none of our deserving veterans go hungry this holiday season.
How It Works
To make this a smooth and safe experience, there are a few easy guidelines to follow. First, participants are asked to clear some space in their vehicle trunks. Once they arrive, they just need to pop their trunk, and friendly volunteers will load the food boxes right into the cars. No person-to-person contact is planned to keep everyone safe and healthy. It’s a quick process designed to help without any hassle!
What If It Rains?
Weather can be unpredictable, and in the case of inclement conditions, the food distribution will align with the Elizabethton City Schools schedule. So, if the schools decide to close due to weather, this food distribution will be canceled as well. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the weather so you can be prepared!
Don’t Forget to RSVP!
To ensure that everyone receives a food box, Second Harvest has asked for participants to sign up ahead of time. If you or someone you know plans to attend, make a quick call to David Batchelder at the Carter County Veterans Service Office at 542-1824. An approximate count of food boxes needed will help make sure that no one is left out. Let’s make sure we have enough goodness to go around!
A Commitment to Our Veterans
This event is not just a one-off; it’s part of a broader commitment to care for our local veteran community. As the holidays roll around, it’s especially important to come together as a community and ensure that our veterans and their families have access to the essential resources they need. Everyone deserves to feel the joy of the season, and this effort is a beautiful way to spread a little cheer!
Join the Cause
Whether you’re a veteran yourself, a family member, or a kind-hearted community member, spreading the word about this event can contribute to its success. Share the details with friends and family, or even just give a shout-out on social media to tell others who might benefit from this initiative. Together, we can help make sure that everyone in Elizabethton feels supported and valued.
Wrapping Up
So remember, this Friday at 2 p.m. is your chance to grab some much-needed food assistance if you are part of our local veteran community. Head over to the VFW Post, pop that trunk, and let the volunteers do the rest. It’s a fantastic chance to receive a helping hand, and help ensure that our heroes are taken care of during these festive times.
Stay warm and stay connected with your fellow Elizabethtonians. Every little effort counts in lifting each other up!
