Elizabethton Annual Memorial Day Ceremony Set for May 27

The patriotic city of Elizabethton is gearing up to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. The Veterans Oversight Committee has announced that the much-awaited Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at the Elizabethton-Carter County Veterans War Memorial on Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m.

Tribute to Fallen Heroes

Established to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, the ceremony pays a heartfelt tribute to a total of 258 brave men and women from Carter County. These valorous individuals defended the rights and freedom of their compatriots, putting their nation before their own lives.

Statistics reveal that these fallen heroes participated in various battles throughout history, including:

• World War I – 49 soldiers
• World War II – 155 soldiers
• Korean War – 20 soldiers
• Vietnam Conflict – 30 soldiers
• Desert Storm – 2 soldiers
• Enduring Freedom – 1 soldier

Invitation to Veterans and Their Families

The Veterans Oversight Committee cordially welcomes veterans, their families, and all citizens of Carter County to attend the Ceremony. This is a splendid opportunity to not only pay homage to those who gave their everything for the country but also to instill the value of patriotism in younger generations.

Presenters and speakers at the event will include a diverse array of individuals. Moreover, a special segment by the local Boy Scouts of America Troop 516 will involve reading the names of soldiers from Carter County who were killed in action.

Special POW-MIA Segment

Apart from the conventional ceremonies, there will be a special segment dedicated to remembering prisoners of war (POWs) and soldiers declared ‘Missing in Action’ (MIA). This segment aims to honor the struggles of these brave warriors who might not have returned home but their memories persist in the hearts of their countrymen.
