Domtar and Eastman Advance in Tennessee’s Manufacturing Contest

The race for the title of the “Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee” contest has heated up as three products from Northeast Tennessee made it to the top 8. Of these three, two products – Domtar’s 100% Recycled Containerboard Grade Paper and Eastman’s Tritan Renew, trace their origins back to Kingsport. The third product, the John Deere Z370r Electric Turn Mower, is credited to Greeneville.

The exciting competition is a collaborative effort by the Tennessee Chamber and Tennessee Manufacturers Association, the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services, the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association, and the Smart Factory Institute Tennessee. It has gained significant traction, attracting approximately 33,000 votes throughout the first two rounds. Over 100 submissions from across the state’s business community were received.

Meeting the Top 8 Contenders

The qualifying Top 8 contestants vying for the title of the “Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee” are:

  1. Domtar, with their 100% Recycled Containerboard Grade Paper
  2. Eastman, with Eastman Tritan™ Renew
  3. American Paper Optics, with their Eclipse Glasses
  4. Blank Beauty, with Huey
  5. DENSO, with their Phone As A Key
  6. Nissan, with their Rogue
  7. Volvo Penta Marine Products, with their Twin Forward Drive
  8. John Deere, with Z370r Electric Zero Turn Mower.

The President & CEO of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry/Tennessee Manufacturers Association, Bradley Jackson, has expressed the contest’s success throughout the state and encouraged Tennesseans to continue casting their votes. An exciting month lies ahead as the contest nears its climax.

People can vote for their favorites for the top 8 category until July 2. The top 4 finalists will be announced on July 8, with the commencement of final voting beginning on July 9 all the way up to July 24. The grand winner of the “Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee” contest will be declared on July 25 at The Coolest Thing Made in Tennessee lunch. This will coincide with the Smart Solutions for Smart Factories Expo, both of which are to be hosted at The Commons at PIE Innovation Center in Cleveland, Tennessee.
