Sponsor Our ArticlesCharisma Johnston, a dog trainer in North Carolina, has been arrested following serious allegations of animal cruelty and the disappearance of several dogs, including a pet named Greta. Pet owners in the community have expressed growing concern and seek justice after Johnston’s troubling past and deceptive practices come to light.
In the charming towns of Wake and Warren counties, a name that has become infamous among local pet owners is Charisma Johnston. The once-respected dog trainer now finds herself under serious scrutiny, and for all the wrong reasons. In a shocking turn of events, Johnston was recently arrested due to allegations related to animal cruelty and the mysterious disappearance of various pets.
Johnston was sentenced to 18 months of unsupervised probation in Warren County after being found guilty of six counts of animal cruelty. In early 2023, she decided to move to the Tri-Cities area, where she proceeded to set up multiple dog training facilities. Unfortunately, this move would soon turn into a nightmare for several trusting pet owners.
One case that has grabbed community attention revolves around a devoted pet owner, Cindy Hollis. Following the heartbreaking loss of her son and husband of more than three decades, Hollis turned to the warmth and companionship of a dog. She adopted Greta, a beautiful purebred long-haired German Shepherd, and wanted to ensure Greta received the best training available.
After doing some research, Hollis found Odyssey Canine—a board and train facility in Johnson City, owned by none other than Johnston herself. With positive reviews and an approval rating from the Better Business Bureau, Hollis felt reassured. When she met Johnston, everything seemed fine; she came across as friendly and approachable.
However, the day Hollis dropped off her beloved dog at 104 Daniels Way in Johnson City turned out to be the last time she laid eyes on Greta. A week ahead of the scheduled pick-up, Hollis received a devastating phone call from Johnston. It was the news no pet owner ever wants to hear—Greta had supposedly been involved in an accident that led to her untimely death.
What raised major red flags for Hollis was the complete lack of details regarding the alleged accident. With her heart full of suspicion, Hollis couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something sinister was at play. To make matters worse, she started to wonder if Johnston could have possibly had ulterior motives in taking her dog.
Months rolled by, and despite Hollis’s tireless search for any sign of Greta, it was as if the dog had vanished into thin air. Just when the situation seemed even more alarming, Hollis received a phone call from another dog trainer who mentioned being involved in investigations about purebred dogs reported dead in car accidents. This news left Hollis shaken, and her resolve to find Greta only intensified.
Cindy Hollis has continually stressed the importance of her dog in her life, likening pets to family members. The emotional strain of the situation has taken a toll, and Hollis is not alone in her suffering. Several other pet owners have begun to connect the dots, suspecting Johnston’s alleged deceptive practices may extend far beyond their individual experiences.
After a lengthy investigation, the Johnson City Police Department stepped in and issued an arrest warrant for Charisma Johnston. Law enforcement officials caught up with her on January 30th in Wake County, where Johnston was taken into custody. Records indicate she was quickly released on a secure bond, leaving many in the community with more questions than answers.
Many pet owners who feel victimized by Johnston’s alleged actions are encouraged to contact the authorities. As the case unfolds, the hope is to bring clarity to those who have suffered loss and restore faith among pet owners in the area. The residents of not only Johnson City but also the surrounding communities look towards the future, hoping for justice for their beloved pets and a solution to this alarming situation.
