David Hicks announces resignation from Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON: David Hicks, president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Elizabethton, has recently confirmed that he will be stepping down from his position in June and moving back to Georgia, his home state. His decision comes after two successful years leading the renowned technical institution.

A Difficult Decision

Hicks shared that the past month had been fraught with deliberation, as he contemplated his next career move. When he initially accepted the role of president in 2022, it involved a weekly commute from his home in Georgia to the Elizabethton campus. While this arrangement had been agreed upon with his family, the original plan intended for an eventual relocation to Tennessee after two years. Predictably, this decision is now taking a different turn.

A Time of Transformation

Reflecting on his tenure at TCAT Elizabethton, Hicks noted the institution’s significant transformation. It has been a pivotal journey, marked by a consistent drive for innovation and expansion, aiming always to provide top-tier technical education to its students.

Heading for Georgia

Upon his resignation, Hicks will be returning to Georgia, marking the end of a period of adjustment for him personally. He stated that he had come to an ultimate conclusion that it would be best for the family to stay in Georgia, attributing this mostly to the challenges linked with relocating during the pandemic.

Looking Forward

Despite the imminent departure, Hicks feels confident about the future of TCAT Elizabethton. As he prepares for his new chapter in Georgia, he is hopeful that the college will continue to soar to greater heights while remaining resilient in the face of challenges. He also emphasized the importance of the school’s main value proposition, – providing students with applied technology education for today’s workforce.

A Legacy of Leadership

Hicks has been instrumental in pushing for strategic academic and infrastructural advancement in the college. His diligent leadership has seen the college rise in ranks and expand its portfolio in terms of course offerings and student capacity.

Under Hicks’ leadership, TCAT Elizabethton has received widespread acclaim for its progress in preparing students for various high-demand careers in applied technology. Despite the president’s departure, the college administration asserts its commitment to uphold its core values and mission.

Concluding Remarks

The immediate plans for his replacement remain uncertain at this point. However, the TCAT Elizabethton community is optimistic about the future and committed to continue building on the solid foundation laid by David Hicks.
